Dear All,

I don’t like to use mobiles, well, for obvious reason---it’s a tracking device.

But I do need to call people, and benefit from many online services that need mobile number to verify these days.

So could you, qubes-fellows, let me know how to do this?

I read the long post of ‘Secure Phones’ on the forum in 2016, it does n’t draw a conclusion by the end,

but some people recommend ‘ChatSecure, Signal in a way of ChatSecure+XMPP+Tor+VPN’

however, precondition for using chatSecure, Signal is to have a mobile phone, therefore it’s not for me.

–-Some recommended a portable version of Jitsi as well.

I researched a lot on this, cannot find VOIP that work with Jitsi, when you need a real number that can

verify web services, which VOIP+Jitsi do you use?

--Which one can give communication some protection if the call receiver side doesn’t use same software as I do?

--If I asked the wrong question, VOIP is not a good choice, please let me know the alternatives.

(many VOIP in on cloud now, so there is privacy problem indeed)

–-Is landlines now a days still a good choice, is it more difficult to hack than mobile?

Is it more difficult to hack then pc?

--To my surprise, Joanna Rutkowska uses iphone, with all the camera and microphone take off of course,

Edward Snowden once claimed he might sometimes use a mobile (?!)

so under what circumstances, using a mobile is secure?

–-lastly, forgive me for jump off the topic a little bit, being a newbie on google forum, I cannot find how to reply post,
if I click on the button of ‘reply to answer’, a ‘sign in gmail’ page just turn up, I am not using gmail at the moment,
so how to reply the post other people write to me?

Thank you all who post reply to this subject, that’s very kind of you.

I am probably not competent to give good answers. In some countries you
get free and de-facto anonymous SIP accounts (I mean, they want a
mail-address, but ... :). No clue if SIP through tor is useful
/possible, though. In any case that is only fine for incoming
phone-verification when it is *voice-based*. Usually they do not serve
as a sms-receiver. If you find one that has that, too, please let me
know. You can easily find 'rent for time' burner phone numbers, but I
guess it is the NSA who rents these numbers to you :)

You could also use an old nokia type phone, branch it to some raspberry
to get phone-interface one one side and wifi on the other and then hide
the complete construction in a public lantern (to get electrical power,
with caution) not too far from your home, so you can reach the wifi
:))) Will only work in the dark, though ..

As non-phone-based communication, have a more serious look at uTox or
jami (formerly called ring, gnu software).
