Hello everyone,

can someone tell me, how exactly 'lv' Parameter from the Scenario section works?

Will the Transmission Lines expanded, if there is a bottleneck between two nodes?

The default Factor for expansion is 50 % (lv=1,5), does that mean, that this is limit for expansion in every considered year?

And what does the option "opt" do?

I couldn't find this information anywhere, so I am thankful for any help.

Best,

Erik

Hi Erik,

There is some documentation here:

https://pypsa-eur.readthedocs.io/en/latest/wildcards.html#the-ll-wildcard

It limits the total expansion of all lines F_l (p_nom_opt) weighted by
the lengths d_l based on the original F^original_l (p_nom):

\sum_l F_l * d_l <= 1.5 * \sum_l F^original_l d_l

such that F_l >= F_original_l.

So lines can be individually expanded, but the total amount of expansion
is limited, so the most welfare increasing expansions are prioritised.

Best,

Tom

Hello Tom,

thank you very much for your answer.

I compared both Yaml Files (of PyPSA-Eur and Eur-Sec) and thought that ll and lv are different parameters, because the default Value in PyPSa-Eur ist 'copt' and in Eur-Sec '1.0' and '1.5'.
Next time I will read the documentation more precisely.

Thanks for your effort.

Best,

Erik
