Hi, I'm the former maintainer of PyCrypto, and I currently control
several "pycrypto" namespaces, including:

- "pycrypto" project on PyPI
- "pycrypto" organization and repo on GitHub
- "pycrypto at lists.dlitz.net" mailing list
- "pycrypto.org" domain name

It's been several years since I touched the project, and I never
properly handed it off to a new group of maintainers, mostly due to an
extended period of poor mental health. I'm sorry for the headache that
this has caused.

Are you folks interested in taking control of the old repo and project
namespaces? I'm prepared to hand them off to whoever is currently
maintaining the PyCryptodome (I think just Helder/Legrandin?)

Hi Darsey,

I am sorry to hear about your challenging times, and I hope you have
found the appropriate help.

I am OK with taking care of pycrypto, with the following intended priority:

1) Fix the current security issues (some with CVEs) and ensure they
land on pypi as a dot release
2) Mark the library as end-of-life'd and add warnings on repo and
installer to recommend a migration path to either pycryptodome or
cryptography
3) Reach out to distro maintainers and see what they recommend.
Potentially, pycryptodome can be packaged under pycrypto, since it
works also under the Crypto namespace.

The mailing list is probably only of historic value by now and it
should be on archive.org, so I think it's better to pull its plug.

I can reach out to you privately (but only in a few weeks) to
coordinate this process.

Cheers,

Helder
