Hey all,

 I'm getting the following puppet error on only one of my hosts. The rest are all producing clean puppet runs. Can anyone please clarify for me the meaning of this error and if it's innocuous or not?

Error: /File[/var/lib/puppet/lib]: Could not evaluate: Could not retrieve information from environment production source(s) puppet://puppet.mydomain.com/plugin

Thanks,
Tim

First of all we need to understand what the client wants to retrieve from the puppetMaster!

so, put here the site.pp of This NODE!
What is the "include" declared for it ?

It's sounds like there are some files that the client didn't found at the source!

Hello,

Here's the site.pp:

import 'nodes.pp'
$puppetserver = 'puppet.jokefire.com'

And relevant node definitions:

node 'base' {
     include  bash, sudo, puppet, ca, nagios, munin, ssh, gpg, xinetd, cron
}

node 'webserver' inherits 'base' {
     include  apache, php, mysql
}

node 'stack.mydomain.com' inherits 'webserver' {
    include  lumberjack, postfix
}

Thanks,
Tim

Hi,

I disbelieve that the source of this particular error is on the manifest
level. It may be pluginsync related.

Is this perhaps your only machine with pluginsync=true and that is not
working with your master?

Thanks,
Felix

I'm with Felix.  This is unlikely to be related to any manifest; instead, it appears to be related to pluginsync.  I think it's saying that the agent was unable to sync plugins.  If any of your modules provide custom types or rely on custom facts, or if they may do in the future, then the error is significant.  It may cause unexpected behavior up to and including failure to apply catalogs.

The actual issue might be anything from a firewall on one side or the other blocking the pluginsync to access controls on the client preventing the agent from creating / updating files in /var/lib/puppet/lib.  You should find it and fix it.

You said that just ONE NODE is getting this error..

So, tell us.

What is the SO of this nodes?
Like Felix and Jhon asked, did you configure your node's puppet.conf with the plyginsync = true parameter?
