Need help understanding puppet output

I am trying to use puppet to provision a vagrant box and am trying to understand the output.  What is the best forum for getting that type of help?  Is this group that forum?  If so, I will post more details of my set up and a listing of what I am getting.  If this is not the forum, I would greatly appreciate any assistance you guys could give me for getting a handle on how to approach the output.  Thanks in advance.

You might have better luck understanding it if you ensure that the agent run happens with --debug turned on. That shows child process invocation syntax and you'll have an easier time relating what you've put in your manifests to what puppet is doing.

Apart from that, if your output is non-confidential you could always put it on pastebin or something and ask about the bits you're having issues with?

(NB: My corporate firewall blocks me from pastebin. You'll probably have to put it on a few of them, somebody on the list will have a sane firewall entry for one of them.)

Activating debug might give me more info.  I will look into how to do that either in my vagrantfile or in my pp.  Also pastebin is good. I got nothing confidential going on.  Thanks for the input.

So I turned on verbose and debug.  I have created a pastebin with the following: Vagrantfile, default.pp and output from "vagrant up".  What is going on and what, if anything should I be concerned about?  Thanks in advance.

Providers not existing, fine depending on your platform. It's a problem if "precise32" doesn't have the apt or deb provider, it's not a problem if it doesn't have the rpm provider.

This part demonstrates a problem (the leading "err"):

err: /Stage[main]//File[site-config]: Could not evaluate: Could not retrieve information from environment production source(s) file:/vagrant/site-config at /tmp/vagrant-puppet-1/manifests/default.pp:9

It looks like your file resource source isn't there.

file { 'site-config':
path => "/etc/apache2/sites-enabled/000-default",
source => "/vagrant/site-config",
require => Package["apache2"],
}

/vagrant/site-config either doesn't exist or is unreadable or something. Given how vagrant is provisioning the host (and so putting the initial files in place) you might look in the vagrantfile to see where vagrant is putting said file.

I've never used vagrant, but given this line:

config.vm.synced_folder "../data", "/vagrant_data"

Possibly the file is really /vagrant_data/site-config ?

(Usually sources are puppet:// urls on a puppetmaster, but in this case it's a file on the same host as the agent.)

I had put site-config in the manifests directory with my default.pp.  After moving it to the parent of manifests, where my Vagrantfile is, it worked fine.
