Hi Joost

With the upscale in new cameras being able to automatically produce focus stacking image sets would it be possible in the future for PTGui to "stack" sets of pictures in a similar way as it currently stacks HDMI bracketed images? ............. Thanks, in anticipation.

Hi Trevor,

Yes, support for focus stacking is on the wish list.

Kind regards,

You can use  batch processing with Helicon Focus Pro. It is the best software for focus stacking. I'm using it for macro photography.

Did you also try Zerene Stacker? There is a lengthy comparison of the
two on https://www.allanwallsphotography.com/blog/zereneorheliconpt1

Just for the record: enfuse, which pioneered exposure fusion, also has a
mode where it weights contrast instead of exposure, thus allowing for a
basic focus stacking. Soon after that, there was a product called
tufuse, which combined both ways: http://www.tawbaware.com/tufuse.htm

However, both don't reach the quality of Zerene Stacker or Helicon Focus.

enfuse and enblend (which pioneered seamless blending) both are command
line programs that share some parameters. In PTGui 9 (which you can
still download) enblend can be used as a plugin, and because of the
parameter compatibility, you also can use enfuse instead. All that
allows for a nice possibility to batch both exposure fusion and focus
stacking, simply by using a template in the batch stitcher. Using PTGui
9 as a batch processor, you can even align images beforehand.

I still do most of my HDRs this way, especially the handheld ones, only
that I use SNS-HDR lite, which gives better results than enfuse.

I have been using Helicon Focus Pro for several years to generate focus stacked images to be used in stitching images in PTGui. This is a tutorial that I did in 2020 describing my process.

This gallery features many of my images done using the above method.
