On Windows, PTGui's mouse tracking performance was never good, and it has been getting steadily worse.  Now in version 12 not only does the mouse cursor often jump erratically and sometimes freeze for seconds at a time, but clicks sometimes fail to take effect.  Usually these conditions resolve themselves quickly, but sometimes I have to switch to a different application and back to clear them, and in a few cases have had to abort PTGui.

I won't say that this is intolerable, because I tolerate it.  But I paint a lot of masks, and this problem makes that much harder than it should be.

Sure, Windows has never been famous for responsiveness, but nowadays all other apps that I use track the mouse far better than PTGui.  Please do something about this.

[My opinion as a s/w engineer is that the problem is likely in the handling of the Windows message queue.  By default, mouse events are delivered on the same queue with a zillion others; parsing them out can take a lot of time and when there is a complex stack of message handlers they can even get lost.  But there are options to deliver mouse events to an app more directly, bypassing the big queue.  I suggest you look into that.]

Hi Tom,

Sounds like it's caused by the repainting of the window getting delayed
for some reason on your computer. I know there were issues in the past
(in particular PTGui 10) but I haven't seen any problems recently on my
computers.

What kind of hardware are you using?
Is it the mask tab or CP tab, or both?
Could you try closing the detail viewer and panorama editor, is there
still any problem?

Kind regards,

I use PTGui on two gaming laptops -- an 8 year old Sager and a three year old Dell.  Both have Intel 4-core (8 virtual) cpus and nVidia gpus plus Intel Integrated Graphics.  The OS is Windows 10 Home.
Only version 12 (b14) seems to have issues with missed clicks and cursor appearing at unexpected positions.  But with both 11 and 12 (and 10 too) the cursor takes little jumps unless I move the mouse very slowly.  Most noticeable in mask tab.
Closing the pano editor or detail viewer does not make much difference to that tracking issue, though of course it does cut down on some long delays for reprojection.

Ok, I'll look into it.

PTGui needs a pretty hefty GPU for smooth mask drawing. Are you using dual screen by any change? I have found it slows down a lot using dual screen and sometimes using super wide with both Panorama editor and mask panel open at the same time.

I have move away from virtual machine and all my keyboard and mouse are plug in, no more wireless.

My mouse and everything is responsive. I have a i9 with 128GB of mem. Don't know if that make a difference.
