Strange stitching issues and stitch boundry changes

Hi,

I have been using PTgui for quite a few years now and apart from my own mistakes never have had any strange issues Until now.

so hopefully someone here can shed a light on this.

I use NN5, NN6 and the NN Mecha P1 C2 motorized system with a Nikon D850 + 8-15mm Fisheye always at 12mm. This setup is always used for 360 panoramas, interior and exterior. Never fails me.

I spend hours finessing the Nodal points for my lenses and I always get perfect stitches.

 

Yesterday I was testing everything for a 360 shoot next week and took some test shots etc as I always do before a shoot.

 The issue is, when I hit the align button, it does its thing and then opens in the Panorama editor window and initially shows what i have attached in the first image, all good and as expected. After about 2-3 seconds the Editor window flicks over and changes the stitching lines and creates the blue/black blurry patch in only one area of the panorama as shown in the second image. The third image shows the effect in a 360 window... I cannot get rid of this. Even be slightly changing the crop I either get a tiny black dot or the smudge.

 Any reason why it changes the stitching boundaries?

 Any ideas at all?

Hi,

The dark line probably originates from the edge of the cropping circle.
Check the Crop tab, if PTGui is indeed using a circular crop, you may
need to reduce the cropping circle a bit so the darker outer edge of the
image is not used.

The flashing happens because PTGui initially still needs to calculate
the optimum seams. While it is calculating, it will show the panorama
with non-optimized seams first, and then update it with the calculated
seams.

You can disable optimum seam calculating in the Panorama Editor,
Blending side bar.

The white balance in your screenshot seems to be inconsistent by the
way. Best to use a manual white balance preset.

Cheers. I will check the cropping again.  The White balance I know was off as it was on auto mode, but it was only for testing the shots.

ok, I checked the Cropping circle again and it seems that the crop was not exactly centred in the image and was off a bit to the left for some reason. I centred it and the issue has gone away.

Is there was way to return the Crop to default or, auto centre it for the future?

By default PTGui will place the cropping circle in the center. But
lenses can be mounted to the camera slightly off center. I assume that's
the issue.

You could create a template as follows for a typical shoot:

- File -> New Project
- Load a set of images
- Go to the Crop Tab and adjust the cropping circle
- File -> Save As Template

You can then re-use the template for future stitches to initialize the
cropping circle (and any other settings you would like to customize).

cheers. I had a template saved previously but maybe it was from version 11. The lens is centred on the Mecha Head so I might have changed it when reducing the crop circle earlier to remove remove the blemish. I assumes it always stayed centred so I probably put it off.
