Stitching seam moving between projects when batch stitching

Hi all 🙂

I use PTGui's batch stitcher function to stitch thousands of pairs of images together that have been captured with a twin-lens time-lapse camera, and up until the release of version 12 it worked perfectly.

I've just diagnosed that since version 12 the stitching 'seam' has become much rougher / more wiggly, which in itself isn't a bad thing as it does tend to do a better job of hiding the seam when only stitching single sets of images together.

However, when using the Batch Stitcher function to create multiple frames of a time-lapse video, the stitching seam appears to move / shift between project files, even though "will not run 'Align images'" is selected. The result is a seam that appears to wobble around in the final time-lapse video when all the pairs of stitched images are played back to back, making its location very noticeable.

Opening the individual project files I can see that the rough stitching line has subtly changed shape / position between the project files, so this is definitely the cause of the problem.

Fortunately, I've been able to use Time Machine on my Mac to pull progressively older versions of PTGui off my backup drive, and the problem existed in all versions of PTGui down to and including version 12. I'm now using 11.31 and the seam stays exactly the same between each frame which is exactly what I need it to do.

I tried to look around for a checkbox to disable the automatic updating / optimisation of the stitching seam between batch stitching project files but couldn't see anything ... is there something I've missed, or is this a bug?

Many thanks,

David

Disable "Find optimum seams" in the Blending sidebar menu in Panorama
Editor.

...and eventually choose Multiband blender.

Ahh thank you for your quick reply Erik!! I'd forgotten there was that additional side menu in the Panorama Editor itself 😀

Is Multiband blending usually the best option if your images have sufficient overlap?

I notice this Blending sidebar isn't available in 11.31 so I assume these earlier versions of PTGui were using Multiband blending by default?

Thanks again!

Hi David,

The Zero Overlap blender works best with optimum seam placement. Without
optimum seam placement (you want to disable this for time lapses),
Multiband may work better. But it depends on the images, you might try both.

PTGui 11 and earlier only had multiband blending.

Kind regards,
