HDR Workflow
I use PTGui 12.7, and have been trying to figure out a workflow to make HDR images using Lightroom, Photoshop and Bridge. I can find no tutorials on the PTGui website that covers the new version of PTGui 12, so I am hoping if I list my workflow here, that I can be critiqued about what is wrong and right about it and what can improve it.
1. With PTGui open to a new project window, I drag and drop bracketed HDR files from Lightroom 10.4 directly to the “Load Images” window in Project Assistant.
2.Images > ”Link HDR Bracketed Exposures” and “Merge bracketed images to HDR and link the positions”
3. Click “Align Images”
4. Run Optimizer
5. Uncheck any Tone Mapping or Exposure Fusion
6. Create Panorama
6a. Output: HDR > HDR panorama (creates an EXR file)
6b. HDR file format: OpenEXR
6c. Output Color space: ProPhoto RGB
6d. Save and send to batch stitcher
7. Using Bridge, open the EXR file into Photoshop
8. Dialog box: OpenEXR Read Options: As Alpha Channel (why does this look so much different than “Open as transparency”?
9. In Photoshop, select Image>Adjustments>HDR Toning
9a. For my high-dynamic range sunrise photographs, I select these options:
Method: Local Adaptation
Edge Glow: Radius: 100, Strengthj: 0.50
Tone and Detail: Gamma: 8, Exposure: -2.3, Detail: 0
Advanced: Shadow:0, Highlight: -100, Vibrance: 70, Saturation: 0
10. Assign Profile: ProRGB
11. Save as Photoshop PSB (large file)
12. Make further enhancements as a 32 bit file, then save as 16 bit file for printing.
If there is a better way to do create a full-dynamic range panorama I would greatly appreciate knowing about it! Every other method I've tried does not seem to have this wide of a dynamic range.
Thanks!
