Hello,

I've been meaning to move away from an older software that doesn't have CUDA / OpenCL support to accelerate the process. Unfortunately I still see issues with the initial alignment in PtGui that is just automatically detected in the other software.

Here's what I see in PtGui 13: (attached as PtGui13.png)

Here's what I see in other software: (attached as OtherSoftware.png)

As you see, without any further steps, the other software has detected almost all of the pictures at the correct alignment and it's also correctly detecting the horizon so the picture is oriented properly.

Are there any plans to improve the automatic alignment?
The list of images listed that require fixing in PtGui is in hundreds of photos and it will take a lot of time to fix them.

p.s I believe I reached out to this forums back in 2021 and asked the same. I really appreciate the developers' feedback on this.

I could share the sourced jpeg files. It's about 46 gigabytes but I assume the issue should be reproducible even if I share the downsized version of it as I'm guessing PtGui is performing some sort of scale-invariant operation.

Thank you and looking forward to hearing back from the developers.

Regards,
Aram

Hi Aram,

Yes I would be interested in having the images so I can investigate.
Looks like this is a few 1000s of images?

Perhaps you could share just a section where PTGui is showing problems,
like the facade of the building? Re-encoding them at moderate jpeg
compression (70-80, not too low) would make the file size manageable.

Thanks

Kind regards,

Ok I'm able to reproduce the issue by halving the images to about 500 images with a size reduction to 30%.
However, I think having the entire set of images changes the potential amount of misalignment as there will be more images to run the algorithm against.

The total file size of the 500 images is now about 1.4 GB (instead of 60 GB).

Here's the result in PtGui 13 (Also attached):

I tried the same photo collection on the other software for a fair comparison:

@ptguisupport Is there a way that I could share the files directly with you?

Cheers,
Aram
