I have just installed the Valhalla vintage rebirth and the Valhalla delay plug-ins. I am using the latest version of ProTools and Mac OS X 15. Though I am able to see all the parameters, I’m not able to change any of them. Is anybody able to use the Valhalla plug-ins in ProTools?

Unfortunately, all Valhalla plug-ins are written in the JUCE platform which, depending on how the developer authors things, can lead to parameters not responding to the accessibility API. With a control surface, everything works fine but not with VoiceOver. I know the developer and will reach out to see if he can do anything about it for future releases.

Thank you very much for that info. That is too bad. Since you mentioned control surfaces, is there one that you can recommend for someone who just works by himself at home?

Hi Charles,
I've never been in the market for a compact control surface and I don't follow too closely what's available currently. It seems like the Presonus Faderport 8 is fairly popular and has a true fader flip mode which is quite helpful. Apart from that, it gets pretty expensive very quickly. Perhaps some others may have more suggestions.

Slau,

So what control surface do you work on currently? Manufacturer and model? Sorry, I am sure you have answered this many times, but I am fairly new to the group.

Thanks,

From everything I have seen the FaderPort 8 is the least expensive option for ProTools users. However people may want to look into how compatible the FaderPort is with ProTOols if a single fader is sufficient, as it’s considerably less expensive.

A few blind users are using the Avid C|24 which is still supported but will soon be an end-of-life product. It's pretty expensive as compared with other surfaces. The Avid Eucon surfaces are the best for Pro Tools these days but have limited support for other dAWs and, conversely, other third-party surfaces have great support for other dAWs and limited support for Pro Tools through the Eucon protocol.

The thing about the single Faderport is that it doesn't support plug-in automation control, kind of a dealbreaker for most.

Is that still the case with V2? PreSonus did update the single FaderPort after the FaderPort 8 and 16 came out.

that's really unfortunate. Sounds to me like it is a Mac OS voice-over
thing though because all of those plug-in parameters are definitely
accessible on the Windows platform in multiple doors.

Its a ProTools AAX issue as The parameters are accessible in Logic and Reaper on the Mac with VoiceOver.

well that's good to know that it's working on other DAW software on the Mac
side. Not good that is not working in Pro tools although you would have
thought that should be easier to narrow down from a development point of
view because that's just broken in one particular plug-in format.

Haven't confirmed that myself. Chi was the one who mentioned it but I'm not sure of the timeframe.

Slau and everyone else,

With regards to what you and others stated in your previous email messages, what would be your answer to the following question? If one was not worried about the expense of purchasing a control surface, and all considerations given to the restraints imposed on our population, what high-end control surface would you recommend at this moment In time? I would like to know what you would purchase if your control surface was damaged basically.

Respectfully,

Hi Steve,

I'd say that the S3 looks like the best choice currently. It's missing some features that the C|24 has but, with the addition of the Pro Tools Dock, it comes close. It has some other advantages being a EuCon device. That said, the S1 would probably be a good second choice along with the Dock at a lower price tag.

Yes, PreSonus rep said "Automation with the FaderPort v2 is relegated to volume automations," but FaderPorts 8 and 16 supports plugin automation.
