Hi Neil.
I found out why sometimes the components in my (big) patches move….
It happens when I scroll the window while it is building (out of lack of patience).
So I go back to playing solitaire while waiting and all is solved…

cheers

Hi,
I can't reproduce this one. Hopefully I've made some changes that
improve the build time, anyway. Although it still seems a little slow
on my Windows machine for some reason.

I've also hopefully fixed the problem with a memory leak when
restarting video pipelines.

Testing of both would be appreciated - there's a test build at
https://github.com/praxis-live/praxis-live/actions/runs/5133775839

Click on dev-build to download - it will be valid for 7 days. For
some reason, GitHub actions puts the zip in another zip. There's no
bundled JDK, so on Windows you'll have to edit the
praxislive/etc/praxislive.conf file and change -

#jdkhome="/path/to/jdk"

probably to

jdkhome="C:\Program Files\PraxisLIVE\jdk"

and then run praxislive/bin/praxislive64.exe

Best wishes,

Neil

Hi Neal. I cannot start the build you sent. I did change the
praxixlive.conf file but when I launch the .exe
all that happens is that the initial splash-screen shows up for a
fraction of a second. I am on Win 11 and the jdk is where you guessed.
There must be some windows error log file somewhere but I do not now
that stuff well enough to find it.

Best
H

Thanks for the info. I also have a Win 11 machine for testing, and not seen that, so likely not a general Windows issue.

If it gets as far as the slash screen then it has at least found the JDK.

Also in the conf file is info on the userdir and cachedir locations. Inside the userdir should be a var\log folder.

You could also try setting the userdir and cachedir to a different location. It could be that there's something being carried forward from your previous setup it's not liking.

Thanks for testing!

Best wishes,

Neil

Hi,

PraxisLIVE v5.6.0 was made available today - hopefully the installer
version will work on your system and address some of the issues you've
reported.

I've noticed what might be the components moving issue on a couple of
projects. Will take a look and see if I can narrow down what's
happening.

Best wishes,

Neil

Hi Neil.
5.6 installs fine on my machine. The only funny thing is that on the
start screen it says:
current version 5.6
latest version 5.5

now the memory of the GPU is freed when the window is closed.

i keep using it and will report if anything unexpected occurs.

thanks cheers

Did you switch off "check for updates" in the options? Other than
that, could be caching somewhere.

Good to know that is fixed.

I have replicated an issue with components moving. Bizarrely, it
seems to affect JDK 17, which is included in the installers, but not
JDK 20, on which a lot of development currently happens. That's why
I've not picked it up before. Trying to work out the cause, before
deciding whether to fix or just update the bundled Java next time.

Thanks,

Neil

OK, this is possibly caused by this bug in the JDK -
https://bugs.openjdk.org/browse/JDK-8283602

Mix that particularly with components that have negative positions,
and the incremental display of graph builds in recent versions, and
the control points for the bezier connections cause things to move
around.

Best wishes,

Neil
