A trot through the rules for 2020-2025 revealed, for me, a significant
shift in times. The way they were before 2025 effectively allowed for a
second day of op on the Coast / PDT Land, and three more hours of op
time.
Times UTC, all Sat Start - Sun End (* I was VA7OTC/R):
2020 1800 July 18, 2020 - 2100 July 19, 2020
2021 1800 July 17, 2021 - 2100 July 18, 2021 *CN78, CN88
2022 1800 July 16, 2022 - 2100 July 17, 2022 *CN88, CN89
2023 1800 July 15, 2023 - 2100 July 16, 2023 *CN88, CN89
2024 1800 July 20, 2024 - 2100 July 21, 2024
2025 1200 July 05, 2025 - 1200 July 06, 2025 <- This is where the Left
Coast looses a second daytime op, and 3:00 hours
2026 1400 July 04, 2026 - 1400 July 05, 2026 <- this might've been an
attempt to correct things.
There is both the shift and a loss of 3 hours time, Daytime, for us.
2022 I had a stunning experience from the second summit of Mt. Prevost
CN88 when 6 m opened to California. Wow for lil ol'd me and a dipole on
the band.
It may have been this 'test in 2023 where that repeated and included
hearing "4 Land" and the Midwest, working 6 and 8, 9.
Not simply change that occurred, it's one that removes an attraction,
access, a possibility. This isn't a mope and wail, a complaint. More,
for me, an attempt to understand why it doesn't seem to appeal, now,
certainly as a /R.
Based on recent enough comments from sponsors of other contests,
seemingly where a 'test is described as World Wide, or International,
this might have been an overly simple attempt to make the activity more
so -- WW / Int'l that is. Possibly wise minds and hearts kicked things
around and went with this. I find it less than it was.
Perhaps I missed the memo on some forum I'm unaware of.
