I was reading through the 1995 setup document by Steven Schultz for 2.11BSD, and he mentioned that if you rebuild the entire /usr area from source that it takes about 12 hours on an 11/44.

I just did that on my PiDP-11, powered by an RPi-5. The compilation only took 1 hour total!

I guess that means that the Simh 11/70 is running somewhere around 12 times faster than a real 11/44.

Pretty amazing to be able to simulate at those speeds.

At least as far as compilation tests are concerned, which focus on IO/file streaming and a modicum of data structure manipulation.

Might be interesting to run some FP benchmarks on the PiDP-11 and compare that to PDP-11/44 performance as well.
