Friends,

I've just released version 2025.10.0 of Photini.

As well as fixing a few bugs, such as Apple's "face information"
metadata causing errors when opening files, this adds the ability to use
your own map API keys.

Using your own API keys means you no longer rely on the keys I supply
with Photini, so if those keys get disabled for any reason (e.g. my
credit card gets cancelled) you will still be able to use Photini's maps
and address lookup.

I would like all Photini users to start using their own API keys, but I
realise this may not be easy to set up for some of you. I've included
some brief instructions on how to do it in the latest documentation.
https://photini.readthedocs.io/en/latest/other/api_keys.html

As always, please let me know if you find any problems.

Thanks for the update and possibility to use your own API Key.
However, I cannot open the Map keys menu of the updated Photini (I can see it, but not select). Settings menu is avaible.
See below.
I have Windows 11 24H2 (with all normal updates done). AI and Copilot are not working since I have disabled them, and some are disabled by MS since my location is within EU (Italy).

Regards,
Heikki Jussila

PS. I am using a Virtual Environment to run Photini.

You need to install the Python "keyring" package (which many users will
already have as it stores your credentials for uploading to Flickr etc.).

Try 'pip install photini[keyring]' to install it (after activating your
virtual environment, if you are using one).

Thanks.

I haven't used it since I do not use flicker ecc., but now if need to I know what to do.

Will install it ASAP.
