Hi,

I'm looking for a simple system primarily to dispense glue

these I found so far:

I planned to buy the product from tindie (second link) but it's sold out currently...

I found out that these systems are often designed to be used with solder paste as well and thats why I post here.

has anybody on the list such a system or a commercial system used? are there other systems you would recommend? would appreciate any links/pdfs/advice, ...

Hi Michael,

I have an Ad-982 system sourced from China via Ali:
https://m.aliexpress.com/item/32720970790.html?spm=a2g0n.search-amp.list.32720970790

There are actually many Clones between 50 and 100 USD.

It requires a compressor. Pressure and vacuuum (to stop dripping) can be controlled via the regulators.

I had to tune the electronics in mine. The timing was not as finegrained as I had wished. Eventually I replaced the small controller by a custim microcontroller PCB but since then it has worked flawlessly.

I noticed there are some models advertised as having digital timers - so these might be worth a try.

For the motorized syringes I am pretty sure these will also work, but I have not had a chance to try one.

Besteht regards Malte

Hi
One of the issues with the pneumatic dispensers is that you need to adjust the timer based on the viscosity of the paste. It thins out as the paste (syringe) heats up from continuous activations.
Maybe the motor driven syringe overcomes this.
The most accurate dispensers use an auger to feed the paste to the nozzle tip.

Cheers
Peter

hi,
thanks for your input.
found on ali the ad-983a which claims to be digital.

what pumps do you use?
would the robotdigg-pump https://www.robotdigg.com/product/599/Diaphragm-pump-4-desktop-PNP-Machine be ok or even better a smaller one: https://www.robotdigg.com/product/1279/12V-50Kpa-Micro-Air-Pump-or-Vacuum-Pump ? is one pump sufficient for having pressure and vacuum the same time?

Hello,

two years ago i made a video about this topic.

If you need a plastic auger pump, then contact me.

Ciao

Combining pressurized syringe with auger doser is really smart - cool stuff.

For many use cases the systems discussed before work nicely even without such add-on. You need a proper compressor (~ 3- 5 bars pressure and a bit of airflow, I'd guess about 2-3 liter per minute). Many workshops will already have compressed air system for tools or machines.

The airflow is required as the control box contains an vacuum generator (venturi principle) to stop dispensed liquid from leaking. The generator requires constant flow to operate properly, so contrary to airbrush such system cannot be run from bottles of compressed gas or small pumps.

It operates like the following: You set positive and negative pressure using mechanical regulators. When you push the button, a solenoid valve opens and the syringe is pressurized, causing the liquid to flow out through the nozzle. There is a built-in timer (adjustable) which closes the solenoid after a certain period of time and opens another solenoid to reduce the pressure by opening aggainst negative pressure / vacuum. Basically exactly the other way round as PnP nozzle :-)

By increasing either pressure or time or both, you get more glue / paste / you name it per cycle, by reducing less. Some fine tuning will allow to always put quite precicesly the same amount.

The motor driven syringes work in a similar fashion, but not with pressurized air but the spindle exerting the force in the cylinder.

Cheers
Malte

thanks for advise, I would prefer a motorized dispenser as I don't have pressured air. but these seem to be sold out everywhere. if I can't get one soon I consider a ad-983a to experiment with dispensers in common...

If you have a air compressor then the end style pneumatic is the way to go the my air compressor makes too much noise i use https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1242346. I made it larger for 10ml.

I personally have found that the cost of a framed stencil when ordering PCB is $10-$20, hence I gave up on the idea of a paste dispenser and just order stencils with PCBs.
I have not gotten "good" at stenciling yet but over time I will improve and learn.

I make my own, I use a Cameo stencil cutter and they work perfect for small runs or prototypes.

Wulf Man,

Maybe you can provide us with details on the hardware needed and quick tutorial how to do it?

Thanks

I agree with Trampas - Get china to make your stencil for $10.

But sometimes that is not an option (mistake/changes/re-spin/gifted-PCB)

In those cases I etch my stencils from thin brass.

See images here under the heading "Making a Stencil"

or the close up photo here

All same standard stuff as making a PCB with dry film laminate, but you are doing brass.

Michael,
Would this kind of dispensing without air compressor - 5V DC work for you?

you may want to look into why youtube thinks the link is potentially bad?

video looked interesting though.
