This is a very quick prototype, and i had just one length of 2020 v slot left.
But i had a few of the sc12uu and shf12s left from the opencnc-za days. So consider this a 'slapped together from what I had at hand' design choice. If you look at the sketchup and so a unhide all, you'll see I actually modelled both, a 12mm bar rail and a vslot rail for Y. The Y carriages has holes for both sc12uu and for mini v wheels. The base has a row of 5.2mm holes for vslot and holes for shf12 (so dual purpose everything)
Mark is sending me some 2040 vslot so when they arrive i'll actually strip off the 12mm and change Y to vslot too (just to upset you a little more (; lol)
On the 2mm mild steel, the mini v wheels have just enough natural springiness that it becomes easy to tweak the preload. But take any statements i make now in light of 'its not pick and placing yet) so i may backpedal on any statements hehe
Looks like my Juki nozzle and nema8 that Varun S sponsored is at the postnet office, will go pickup today (:

Tape width: i have 13.5mm between uprights. In the base there is cutouts for inserting 3d printed 'guides' to tweak the width per rail.

Motion control will be my own smoothieware based controller (also see the wordpress/googleplus/github.com around that) but the rest of it is also still up in the air. Thats why i go in hardware first.. Having a platform to experiment on makes it easier to evaluate options :)
I have cutouts on the base for a bottom view camera (;

Peter very nice job , you are cut still to laser ?
Tape advance for this version is with the needle in dragging it forward. The rest of your comment, i had trouble understanding unfortunately. I planned all my sizes in CAD

Juki nozzle and robotdigg adapter arrived today. I have runout thats visible by eye. Not on the motor+coupler side. But the grub screws holding the juki in + o-ring causing a squishy surface + too much play in the hole for the nozzle. Not unusable, shouldnt be enough to offset a 0603 (reflow surface tension is great. I currently tweezer 0603s, this cant be worse)
Pic attached
Without the o ring it seats better yes. I wont be swopping nozzle mid job, so a liquid sealant, silicon gasket may be an option
Try without the o ring. You should still be able to maintain enough suction considering you'll be using a compressor. It's important that the nozzle seat against a known square surface.
