Best openhab thermostat

I currently have a bunch of Honeywell WiFi TH9320WF5003 thermostats that I like a lot and use with the Honeywell iPhone app. The only issue is they don't work with openhab and I have not been able to find anyone willing to be paid to make them work. So my question is, what is the best thermostats to use with openhab? I want a thermostat in every main room and this is a new house so they can be wired or wireless and I want to be able to read and set them in openhab.\

Any suggestions?

I have a Honeywell thermostat RTH6580WF with mytotalconnectcomfort.com support. I guess the device itself is not accessable, but I did just send an email to their tech support. If I get an answer I will post it here. You may saw this already in the other thread and I didn't test it - but it looks like here is a script to control the thermostat over the web page: https://github.com/nottings/python-honeywell-thermostat

I have an Insteon thermostat 2441TH, but it's not supported in the binding yet, and may not be in a good while :(

It's possible though, definitely, at least some of the features could be implemented.

Where are you located, the US? I noticed that the high-end A/C systems from Carrier have their own control system (Infinity) that is very hard to home-automate. So let's say you pick fancy thermostat X, you may find that you can no longer upgrade to a high efficiency AC system because that brings its own thermostat. Something to think about.

But, I'm not sure I answered your question.  I'm not sure I can say that the Filtrete thermostats are "the best"  But they do have an open API, and are inexpensive.

I user Homematic thermostats with homegear and openHAB. They gave me the option to link thermostats in the room to a central one for the room

I am soon going to submit a pull request for a binding to the Ecobee line of thermostats (targeted primarily at the North American market).  The recent ecobee3 is very slick and supports up to 16 remote sensors that sense temperature and presence, so it will reach the thermostat's setpoint in rooms where there is movement.  The older, less expensive models are also supported by the binding.  It is a wifi thermostat with a rich API, nearly all of which is exposed in the binding, including local weather conditions.  I wrote the Ecobee integration for the Vera home automation system, but openHAB opens up the potential to integrate so much more information.

Were you ever able to bind your wifi thermostat with openHAB using that python script? I also have one of these thermostats. I just started with openHAB a couple of weeks ago....I don't know how to get a python script running with openHAB. I could probably hack my way around once I get things communicating.

I wrote and maintain the bindings for the Nest and Ecobee wi-fi thermostats.  The bindings are available in OpenHAB 1.7 and they let you see and do everything that's possible via their APIs.  The Ecobee3 is especially nice, because it comes with a wireless remote temperature/occupancy sensor, and you can add up to 16 wireless sensors that average occupied rooms' temperatures, so the target you set for heat or cool has to meet the temperature in occupied rooms.  Very nice if your HVAC system unevenly heats or cools your home. The binding of course gives you temperature and occupied status for all the sensors, as well as the thermostat itself (including relative humidity).  The rest of the design is top notch as well.  New iteration comes with HomeKit support built in.
