Hello, this issue is not properly related to phD2, however I hope that someone could give me some hints.
Since a couple of months, I get often and often (initally every few days, now 90% of the times) this message when I try to connect:
"ASCOM driver problem during connection : (ASCOM Celestron ) Connect to COM 4 failed, no Celestron scope detected".  I tried to use another computer, but I get the same error (this time is on COM 6,  the port assigned by the second computer). Therefore my conclusion is that this is not linked to the computer (same error on two different computers!).
As said, this error sometimes disappears when I connect again, more often it does not and I have to use the ST-4.
Have you got some ideas? Could it be the cable ? The mount?

Best Regards,

The cable would have been my first thing to change, not the computer.

It’s always cables, most of the time.

Alberto,

Your problem might be due to the hardware, or something related to ASCOM, or the cable (or maybe something else). So it's hard to know where to start your search for help.

You can get ASCOM platform help at the group.io group "ASCOM Talk Forum". That's primarily for the ASCOM platform -- not a specific driver. It's 99% likely that your problem ISN'T related to the ASCOM platform. However, you can often get helpful tips and guidance on problems with drivers.

There are two versions of the ASCOM Celestron driver. One is relatively old but very popular (5.0.30). The newer one (6.1....) has the current/latest information for contacting the author of the driver in the Help information.

I don't want to analyze your problem on this forum because it's likely not related to SharpCap. But if I had to make a guess or two, I'd suspect the issue is about dynamic com ports or some competing software dominating the com port for the mount.

Joe

Oops. "not related to SharpCap" should be "not related to PHD".

(Can you tell I'm browsing my groups' emails?)
