Hi,

While observing i found that some script fonts has both hinted and unhited versions of ttf file.
Do we need these 2 versions of same fonts?

I think disabling hinting for Hinted fonts in fontconfig file will make them unhinted file.

 Example:
In Fedora if some fonts Bytecode does not working well i can simply disable it in fontconfig file and use it as a unhinted fonts and apply autohinting.

IMHO as soon as one gets Hinted version of particular script font simply remove it fron unhinted version and may be keep it in some other folder named "Deprecated" or some better name.

Hi Pravin,

For Khmer, Lao and Cham, I recommend to use hinted version.

Hi Pravin,

Our workflow process is such that we first build the unhinted font and then hint them. There are platforms where these fonts are being used where the hints are just dropped by the platform (Android, for e.g.).  So putting the hinted versions of the font in them will just waste space. Which is why we want to keep both hinted and unhinted versions of the font in separate directories. That way, we leave it up to the platform to choose which font they want to bundle/use.

In the case of RH, it makes sense to package the hinted fonts.

Just checked Hebrew hinted and unhinted version. Difference is size is fare enough (8K)  to have two separate version of it in Handheld devices. Agree with you.
Bit off-topic question, so does Android uses autohinting for all fonts?

Yes.

Thanks for clarification.
