Hi,

If anyone has a Corsair 880, I need to compare the location of the trailer ama bunks with my new trailer.
Mine seem to be too far inboard. The boat appears unstable on the trailer.

I’m trying to get someone from Tuff Trailer to look at it, but without success so far.
They want me to take the trailer, with the boat on it, (from La Conner) to Ferndale for them to evaluate.
I’m not comfortable doing that due to the amas possibly not being supported properly.
There is the potential for damage to the amas, or worse.
I’ve sent many photos, but they don’t seem to be able to figure it out from them.

I’d appreciate any other suggestions for resolving this stand-off.

Thanks,
Richard Bryan

FWIW Richard, Ian specified that the main hull carried the load on the trailer, and the ama supports were modestly loaded to provide stability.  The ama supports can be lifted if necessary by using a bottle jack, or floor jack.

Richard, why don't you post the photos here?
I just bought a new/old trailer, and for the moment I have no ama
supports. So the trailer holds the boat fine but I am relying on tie
downs to keep the boat upright on the trailer. I would not want to
drive to Ferndale like that either.

I'm curious on photos also. I got my trailer built to spec from plans for the F9 trailer and it worked perfectly first time.

However, the "manufacturer" (honestly - mostly just one guy with a small work yard running a small team of maybe 5-10 guys) did volunteer that he (and one of his guys) would personally be present for the "fitment" and that the bunks might require adjusting. They didn't - but they came to me to do it. It is not an unreasonable level of customer service.

TBH - I also negotiated that they would store the boat at their yard until I could have someone tow it to me.. so they were there with their truck and the new trailer to load and take the boat, not just to test fitment. But even so - they specifically were present and ready to make adjustments.

If Tuff Trailer was working to plans, you should also have access to those plans so you can tell them how they messed up, if so.

I visited Tuff Trailer earlier this week.

They have a design for Corsair boats which looks good in the photos they showed me.
However, Bob Gleason, the dealer who ordered my trailer, made a sketch of a different design and asked them to build that instead. His sketch did not take into account the location of the main longitudinal beams on the trailer. Consequently, the bunks he specified could not be located in the correct position.

Ram, at Tuff Trailer, instructed me how to take measurements so they could build new bunks like they use in *their* design for Corsair boats. They can then build new bunks which can be transported to the boat yard for installation on the trailer, without needing to take the boat and sketchy trailer to Ferndale.

This might also allow the trailer problems to be decoupled from the work on the boat needed to make it ready to launch.

One thing I discovered when making the measurements is that the width where the bunks should support the amas is wider in the front than in the back, by about 8”.
