Hello

Just joined group.  I’m interested to know if you guys have a laser cutter that can cut balsa.  Typically say 3mm x 100m x 900mm.

Would be via .dxf files.

Any help appreciated :)

Mike

Hi Mike,

I have cut 3mm balsa on a later before.

This was not on the Maker Space laser, but there is no reason why this should be any different. The only issue is the space's bed size is A2, so only 594mm wide.

You need to get the settings dialed in correctly, and the focus needs to be spot on, but it cuts cleanly when that is the case.

All the best,

  Alistair

Hello Alistair

I used the laser in FabLab in Sunderland a few times, but sadly closed now.

594mm might be workable depending how I arrange the parts.

Was it a commercial or hobby type laser?

Cheers

Mike

Hi Mike,

Apologies I lost track of this conversation.

It is a commercial CO2 laser. It is not as large or as the FabLab FB1500, but it will do all the same things on the smaller bed.

All the best,

  Alistair
