I worked for years in a Governement building in Hull Quebec (Place du
Portage) that had OTIS elevators with this style touch buttons. Most of
the staff thought they were heat activated and were worried that if
there was a fire they would call to the fire floor.
(several years later there was a mandatory refit of all elevators to
have a "Fireman" key and they were connected to the fire alarm so that a
fire would automatically put them in service mode and call them to the
lobby, where only the fireman�s key would make them work.)
I can recall on frustrating days I found that a wave of the hand was
sufficient to fire all the buttons on the way off the elevator.
