Just finished another NixiSat redo for a customer. Came out real ‘purdy, I think! Customer provided the partially populated PCB and unfinished base he originally purchased from Jeff Thomas and I did the rest. I performed Jeff’s latest changes and added our GPS/NWTS mod as well as our wired PIR mod. Mounted an Azevedo NWTS in the base route-out and mounted our PIR PCB there too. Converted the original BNC opening to a 1/8” TRS jack which now serves as the PIR plug in. Kept the temp setup original except substituted a nicer looking, more rugged sensor and extended the cable a bit. Also had a new acrylic top fabricated out of ¼” material vs. 1/8” and had all four corners radius’d.  Replaced the customer’s original FW with the latest release, V11-02-10. So, this customer will now have a ‘near stock’ classic Nixie clock updated with network time sync and PIR capabilities as well to save his gorgeous tubes!

That is a gorgeous timepiece. The proportions of the Z5680 are perfect!

Agreed. Dalibor has got the numerals down pretty darn perfect, and they’re a bargain compared to these. But you really can’t beat the originals. Too bad the 5680’s and M’s are still so ridiculously expensive.

Very nice indeed. I especially like the replacement cover - looks good.

The originals are starting to "craze" and the joints to bubble - mine is still ok-ish but not great.

So important to keep these great clocks going.

I plan on getting a replacement cover made for mine as the years have not been kind to the welded seams as Nick pointed out. If anyone else is interested then PM me. May not be cheap fyi.

Cheers,

For that it's worth it's around 100-120$ here in the AZ USA to get just one made. I had one of the old b-7971 clocks need a new top... Luckily Michael sent me his drawings which made it easier. I can't imagine it would be any more than that. That's with them doing everything directly from the drawing materials, entering into the cad/cam system, laser cutting, gluing, heating the joints to make them less opaque... Everything.

Oh and Michael... Another masterpiece brother! Your 1000% right about Dalibor too. When you're closer to finalizing the new clocks let me know. I've got a rack of B-7971 now and some are just waiting for when you're ready again. I also recently reread and figured out you've used the NixieSat PCB for more tube types than x568xx... Simply awesome!

Not NixiSat boards with other tubes, but the smaller NixiChron boards, yes. I've built a few 8091 clocks with NixiChron electronics. Lately I've found the PV electronics seem to lend themselves better to driving other big tubes than the NixiChrons. Pete's PS seems to have a bit more moxie than the older NixiChron boards did and deliver more current under load.

Those are the tubes and clocks I was thinking about.  I've recently put back together some old pieces and got this running.  The tubes are good... I like to find them with perfect coating still on the tubes and that isn't ago easy but the best I've found are from Poland or old collectors.  I used an original RadioShack answering machine power supply so the clock could sync from the line frequency correctly.  It's neat how I think Dieters clock reads the line frequency when you first plug it in.

Yeah I have one of those boards. modified it a bit and drove it with Tube Hobby electronics 'cause i wanted to use 566's, which I have a boatload of. This clock: http://www.badnixie.com/ArtDeco_Nixie-hybrid.html

That base on the ArtDeco is wicked.  Pramanicin said no nixie deals out there... look what I scored today for less than 50$ NIB:

s-l1600 (2).jpg

Maybe my luck is about to change... the B-7971's sure aren't very cheap anywhere anymore.  Even a couple of my contacts I was getting fairly good prices on them is now selling on ebay.

Basically went from 2 for 150$ to 200+ each o.O  That's more than double the price now.  I will say this though... after none changing hand in a long time a LOT have changed hands recently.
