I work tech support at a school in Lansing Michigan.  Over the past couple of years I have tried to learn about basketball analytics because I find it really interesting.  I am a big Piston fan and unfortunately the more I have paid attention to advanced stats the more I have realized just how masterful Josh Smith shot charts are.  I look forward to discussing basketball with you all.

No actually. I spent the last 3 years in Lawrence while my wife finished law school, so I'm a KU fan even though college basketball has become almost impossible to watch for me recently. We just moved to Wichita within the past year, and the amount of grief I receive about the Shockers being a better team is almost unbearable.

Hey guys, I'm a physics major at Yale and a fan of the Cavaliers. I've gotten interested in NBA analytics in the last few years, especially after finding nbawowy and James Brocato's excellent site shutupandjam.net. Like many, I am in the process of building a draft rater, with a focus on giving projections with accurate error values (so in plus/minus terms, I want projections that look like Andrew Wiggins: 2.5 +/- 1.2).

I'm a huge NBA fan, somewhat team agnostic but with a special place for my formerly local Knicks and Nets, as well as the Rockets (due to experiencing Linsanty from its epicenter)... that said, the Rockets can be unwatchably boring.

I enjoy stats and good bball analysis and conversation in general. I can't recommend TrueHoop TV Live highly enough for all of this. Looking forward to this forum!

Hello, everyone. Thanks again to Evan for getting the thread up—I'm Sagar: I'm a student at NYU who writes basketball for a small blog run by alumni. My primary use for the site is to expand my own pieces on stuff because I don't have enough to spend on Synergy or the time to load stuff on NBA.com. Hi everyone - I'm Tom Pestak.  I write for Cavs:TheBlog and am editor of gotBuckets.com.  My day job is an electrical engineer working in navigation but my night job (and what I prefer) is writing / talking about the NBA.  I'm a Cleveland Cavaliers fan and I've been poring over advanced stats since 2005 in an attempt to "deal with" Kobe fans.  :)

I engage in a decent amount of math and data crunching (from navigation sensors) at my job but I'm an engineer so I use Matlab and Numpy and am terrified of R.  I've done my own RAPM but I'm trying to get familiar with the industry standard terms/techniques that everyone in the NBA analytics community uses.  I have a monster 32GB workstation so if anyone needs a really large matrix inverted - I'm here to help!

Nice to meet everyone!

Hey Evan, thanks, I'm in!

I'm Dan Dickey, many of you may kinda know of me from the APBRmetrics board (Statman) or Twitter (Hoops_Nerd).  I'm a detention officer in Arlington, Texas for about 1 more month (18 years of state & city "justice" work is enough).  I'll be attempting to land some kind of basketball analytics type gig sometime after "retiring" from that job.  We'll see, we'll give it a go, I've never come anywhere close to devoting full time to basketball analytics.

My site & Twitter are very much works in progress.  My site probably has more college player analytics than found anywhere else (gotta scroll back through some of the March Madness stuff) - and this especially will be true when I actually post the last 18 seasons of D1 college player ratings over the next month or so.  I'll have the last 35 NBA regular seasons of player ratings posted after this morning - gonna upload seasons 1980-1999 starting in a few minutes (will probably take like 2 hours - a lot of formatting).  Seasons 2000-current are up for now, season by season.

Anyway, I don't have many "go to" boards, I think this one will work great - since I love the work Evan does & would like to support the dude.  I'll post updates and such here & probably really get involved in any NBA draft debate stuff - especially when I get my draft model completed in June.  I have an NBA career curve model I might actually put the finishing touches on within a week (I'll rank ALL current NBA guys for future NBA seasons, just for fun) - I'll post results here & twitter when done.  Hopefully the college player NBA projections will get kinda seamlessly added in in June.  Good times.

PLEASE, if anyone has any ideas on what you'd like to see on my site - or any other twitter & boards that are must follows - let me know.  If anyone likes any of my work - repost it or utilize it anywhere you'd like, and let me know on twitter so I can thank you & retweet.

Hey Nathan, am I following you on twitter?  I'm trying to keep other draft model peeps on my radar, so we can compare results when it's all said & done, see where the consensus lie (both good & bad).  I think I'm following most the known "public" ones (ones that haven't already been hired by a team).

I actually don't have a twitter...but I plan to be as public as possible about my results and methods when I do really get into making my draft rater (should be starting in earnest next week, after finals end). There are some statistical outliers in this draft (most notably McDermott, Anderson, and McDaniels), and I'm very interested to see how they fare in different models.

Hey everyone!  My name is Derek Carty.  I've been in the fantasy MLB industry for a long time and launched my MLB DFS projection system this year at Fantasy Insiders.  I'm just starting to get into NBA but am hooked already, and am in the process of beginning to develop a DFS NBA projection system.

Hello guys, I am Tom and I currently live in Taiwan. I grew up in the bay area so I am a big Warriors fan, I play fantasy basketball with some friends and that's how I came to be interested in the analytical side of basketball.

Hey everyone, name is Chris Terzic. I write at Bulls101.com and ref basketball (which in my area is surprisingly decent money. It's like bartending except the adults likely aren't drunk, and to my knowledge, is also not a Ponzi Scheme). I recognize some of the names on here, and am happy to of found this place. Seems like a good group of people interested in sharing and learning, so hopefully I'm able to do my part.

Hi everyone,

My name's Avi and I'm an aspiring statistician at Northwestern University. I've survived being a Nets fan since the Stephon Marbury days and have no plan on stopping the pain now.

Hey everyone, Im Patrick and obviously a huge NBA fan. just graduated with my BBA in Sports Management, and I currently have an internship with a minor league basketball team where I do marketing, production, and coaching. My real passion is analytics in basketball, and I'll often take hours or days entering data into spreadsheets (thank goodness Bb-ref has an export function) to run linear regressions. im currently working on a regression using on-off data. im tired of bottom-up statistics forming the basis of my models, and would like to use the top-down data that Evan supplies to create a better regression than I've previously been able to.

Hi everyone;

Appreciate being apart of the group.  I'm Ricardo based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Been actively involved in fantasy basketball since 2000, primarily in Yahoo! Sports.  If you have better suggestions, I'm open.

I commission an extremely competitive league, luckily I was able to attract NBA TV personalities.

Look forward to ongoing fantasy basketball communications.  Thank you.

Ricardo.

Hello, all.

I'm a sport management professor at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo studying daily fantasy sports as a side project. It's a natural fit for me, as I'm a 23-year veteran of fantasy sports. My main games have been baseball and football, but this year, in order to continue the study, I've really gotten into the NBA. Although this research study is qualitative (participant inquiry), I'm fascinated and interested by the analytics side.

After over 6 months of tracking my daily play and taking field notes, I have a strong conviction that DFS is skill-based and should remain legal. I believe analytics are a critical component to the continued legality of DFS, so any and everything I can learn to further my own advantage and further explore the skill involved with gameplay are my primary motivators for joining this forum. I look forward to learning from you all.

Hi guys,

I'm Aaron, I'm a health actuary by day, NBA junkie at night. Lifelong Bulls and Bucks fan from Wisconsin, now living in Colorado and still sad the Nuggets fired George Karl so I don't get to watch that really fun offense anymore. I've become much more team agnostic in recent years, just love NBA basketball and have favorite players more than team loyalty.

I dabble with basketball analytics as much as my limited free time allows, and I've been working on some things with the SportVU data recently. Will start blogging soon at strictlyforbuckets.com

Hi everyone,

I'm a graduate student in social work and public at the University of South Florida with a lifelong hoops addiction that I can trace at least as far back to being in Richfield Colosseum when Michael Jordan crushed my beloved Cavs with "The Shot" in '89.  Analytics are strictly a side interested for me, one of a few things I blog about.

Hey, I'm Mara. I'm a non-profit data nerd by day, and a long-time basketball and fantasy basketball (the 82-game kind) fan. Basically, it's basketball's fault that I'm a data scientist (for which I am most definitely grateful), since R, Python and the like come in so handing for optimizing fantasy lineups.

I'm from Boston, so I, of course, root for the Celtics, but am never opposed to a shot block or two coming from the other team (as long as it's at the hands of someone on my fantasy roster).

Like most girls, I love a good bit of spatial tracking, toying with predictive models, and devising player metrics in my spare time.

Hey guys, my name is Keith, I've been creeping on here for over a year. I have a podcast that is pretty silly called Fastbreak Breakfast, but we like to be accurate (when necessary), and appreciate the hard work of people in the nbawowy and analytics community to broaden our understanding of the nba.

But I'm also a Grizzlies fan so I understand net rating is trash.

Cheers,

Keith

Hi everyone, my name is Rob. I'm new to DFS. Started Sept 2015 & is transitioning from NFL to NBA. I was just laid off 2 days ago because of seasonal slowdown. I plan on using some of my time in learning how to become a better GPP player. I've done well in 50/50's about 60% & should be rostering more entries there, but call me stubborn. My failures in GPP's only fuels my desire to be better in that arena. I've invested in 4 premium sites hoping it'll help me become better, & I have. In Fanduel NFL. I'm rostering 6-7 solid plays, but it's the 2-3 that drives me nuts. I can't figure out how those plays were even decided on. I've tried looking into those plays for signs that said roster him. I found none, or didn't see any. Statistically nothing stood out. I began to think that somehow the winners are cheating, but I know they're not. Falling short with 2-3 plays bringing in single digits week after week drives me insane, especially when I see plays on winning LU's with players that came out of the "Twilight Zone". Yes I am determined & persistent at getting better. Someday I will. I hope that it's before I "Toe up" LOL!  I'm actually having fun doing this. It's just that I never thought I'd have this much fun losing at something.

Hey everybody, I'd heard of NBAwowy before but hadn't really visited until I heard someone - I think Tom Haberstroh? - referred to it on the Zach Lowe podcast. Love it thus far. I do macroeconomic analysis by day and edit www.tuesdayswithhorry.com by night. Have written elsewhere occasionally too. Eternally recovering Knicks fan, but to paraphrase Eduardo Galeano, when good basketball happens, I give thanks for the miracle and I don't give a damn which team or country performs it.

Hey everyone,

My name is Reed, and I love the NBA. I am a young aspiring basketball writer always looking for resources to broaden my knowledge and experience. I first found this site while reading one of Tom Haberstroh's articles.

I realize the group has not been active in quite some time, but I am hoping to help revive it so I can communicate with some fellow educated basketball minds heading into July 1 during one of the most important, exciting offseasons in league history.

I've already written some stuff, some of which I am proud of, some not as much. My latest piece: https://blog.fantasylifeapp.com/nba-free-agency-preview-part-1-fc124c393ff5 (Desperate for some feedback, negative or positive).

Looking forward to chatting with some of you.
