I live out of MLO for my tasks and Evernote for my notes. Recently I've been using Evernote more and more as it does nice formatting and allows me to add pictures. The notes are really nice there. I know that MLO isn't intended to hold note-like information long term like Evernote, but I keep jumping between the two to find where I've put recent information. Sorta drives me nuts.

But, to add to the mix, I'd like to add some really simple budgeting data into the mix and don't know where/how to do it with the least amount of work. I'm working on refitting an old sailboat. I have a growing pile of notes on information that I want to apply to the tasks I want to do, I have a whole section in my MLO profile dedicated to managing the project. Now, I would like to tack on a single number to sum up the projected costs. Just one number added to some of the items in MLO so say that I'm budgeting $100 for a bilge pump. Where do I put that info and how do I extrapolate that 'automatically'.

I've really wished that MLO had a single numeric field that you could ask it to average or sum up the tree, or that you could pull out of filters.

How do you manage this kind of info? Do I have options other than just opening up a spreadsheet and entering all the info in there, essentially duplicating my information and having me to now deal with cross referencing everything manually?

Hi, Marvin. You can stuff a single number into a task in the "effort required " field. It's denominated in hours bit you can put in 100 hours to represent  $100, or use one hour 40 minutes  (=100 minutes). What I don't know is how to get a total. My best idea is to look for a way to export your mlo/windows profile to a spreadsheet and take the tot as ls and averages there. Still have to  use multiple tools bur at least the work breakdown and budget come from the same source.

Budgeting: I am using New You Need a Budget (also called NYNAB) which is a 100% web app. It is working well for me, but I also use a spreadsheet for forecasting how much I plan to spend during the year.

MLO storing pictures or having Rich Text notes: I am against it because MLO has always had a lightweight footprint and RTF means "bloated software" to me.

Using YNAB as well. It is the first personal money software I've used that made sense. (Pun very unintended.)

I get the small footprint thing. Not asking for RTF, but it is one thing that I find holds MLO back for me. I do wish there was a way to select a branch and copy everything out and paste it into Evernote. Once I am done a project, I'd like to store the whole thing as a note. That isn't handy right now at all.

Hi, John. I understand that pictures and attachments produced bloat and I've stopped requesting them. I don't buy that rtf=bloat though. Let me be specific. I am not necessarily looking for the specific implementation called rtf.  I want a dismissable toolbar that allows me to select the following formatting options: bold, italic, underline, larger/smaller characters, tab, indent, numbered/bulleted list,  color. And I  want the selected formatting to appear across platforms. I do not imagine that this constitutes bloat or that it would be all that expensive to build.
