Nice idea, but sometimes we're really overcomplicating things. I just
use a bookmark, or note where I left in the title or the text, and then
shift the due date to "next day" or "next week" whenever I want to
continue reading.
If you really want to check the task off to document that you done it,
you can also do it with an "alternative complete".
The online help explains it as follows:
Alternative complete is a way to complete a task with some additional
actions. To use alternative complete instead of simple task complete
just hold down the Ctrl key while you check the task with a mouse click
or with the space bar.
Right now the following additional actions are performed on alternative
complete:
1) A completed copy of the task is created instead of the original task
completion
2) The original task is moved to the end of the branch (if you completed
it in the Outline) or to the end of the current list (if you completed
it in the To-Do).
