Hi,
When adding a new task using share (Android) there is no option to set a folder. The new tasks are added under Inbox folder.
So every time after doing so ,I need to go to the newly created task and move it to the correct folder.

I didn't see any complains on this missing functionality,
so I wonder if there is an option to do so.

*The workaround for me is copy text instead of sharing, then open mlo new task shortcut, paste the text and set the folder (as you can set the folder in this new task dialog)

Thanks
Asaf

Hi Asaf

This is called 'processing your In-box'!
It's good to see new tasks in one place, the in-box, where they can be given contexts , due dates, etc, before being moved to the relevant folders in the Outline

Hi Wol,
Yeah, I familiar with process the inbox / inbox zero flow.

But if we strive for efficiency, in case you know what the folder is, for the new task ,(along with other attributes that you can and probably do set in this phase like contexts, due dates, etc), it is better to set folder right away (or at least have the option to) and not depending on process inbox timing for set the folder and only the seeing the task in the correct place.
* I have work related branch tree in my mlo, so I wish to add work new tasks directly under this branch.

Thanks

I agree, it should not slow me down when I don't need to do extra steps

Hi, Asaf.

I would guess that what you request would be difficult-to-impossible using standard Android share. For a text-based share the originating app sends title and text and I don't believe that there is any other parameter suitable for sending folder. MLO could set up a special share to receive title, text, and folder but it only be accessible from apps programmed to send title  text and folder, of which there are probably none. Also, once you open this door you are very likely to hear from other users wanting to share start date, importance, context, due date, and even the less-frequently-used ones like isfolder, isproject, ischildof, effort, etc etc.

Fortunately, MLO contains a structure for coding all of this, for example if you wanted to create a task to review accounts receivable, two weeks from today, and store it in the folder "work" you could specify
Review A/R -s 2w -tofld work
Where the -tofld operator stands for "to folder"

To use this you would need a way to tell MLO to parse the text you are passing.

You are asking for a specific interface to allow a task created by Android share to specify a destination folder but I suspect that a way to request parsing of text passed through Android share would resolve your issue and would be easier to understand, code, and market.

Hi Dwight,
Thank you for the detailed answer.

Actually I aiming to much simpler request - add the ability to set folder in "edit task" screen (which is the screen you have after sharing text into mlo).
Similar to "New Task In: <Inbox>" that we have upon new task mlo shortcut and can change the folder there.

If sharing must open edit task as a limitation or something, so adding "MOVE TO” button might be useful (same as we have it on Task Preview screen).

Thanks

Thanks

Would it be fair to describe your request like this:

Please replace the "delete task" button at the end of the edit task page with a pair of buttons "move task" and "delete" like at the end of the task preview?

This would simplify the request by eliminating any need to think about Android share, task insertion, inbox management, etc.

Yes Dwight, it will be fair, perfect feature request :) I hope you'll support it..

In my question I tried to demonstrate my flow in order to check with you guys if there any other solution which I didn't think of.
Sorry for the confusion.

Thank you
