How can I create a task in a context that comes up with a location based reminder in more than one location? Examples would be something like grocery stores, DIY stores, post offices etc. I would like to create a task like "Post important letter" and assign it to the context "Post Office". Then have MLO notify me when I am near any of the five post offices that are near my home or office. Can this be achieved? If yes, how?

Hi, Oliver. Maybe someone will have a suggestion. But I'd like to share with you that I've tried to do this and I havent succeeded. This requires a feature called something like "location inheritance" which is not implemented and not scheduled.

I concur with Dwight on this.  In fact, I stopped using location context for most errands because very few of my errands only have a single possible location for getting it done, so relying on connect to activate a task was causing me to miss efficient opportunities.

What a shame, I was unaware that this was a limitation when I purchased the program. I think it should warrant an asterisk and footnote when they talk about contexts being included under other contexts.  It greatly reduces the effectiveness of the locational awareness feature.

I believe this whole area will be subject to a lot of change in the near future. It doesn't make sense for each program to have it's own variety of location driven triggers. I reckon that a service will emerge with an API which developers can connect to which provides common functionality across programs. The location should drive activity not the task if the location is important. FWIW I'm using Google Keep for location based tasks (usually errands/shopping) - it's really easy to share with my wife as well.

Hi Everyone,

I came across this question and perhaps this might help.

The question:

Here is my thought

I create these Contexts:
!PO New York City
!PO New York State - Near our house
!PO Singapore, Downtown

All the above have locations set in each context's property Location tab.

I added this context:
!PO All Post Offices (which includes each of the above)

I make a task:
Mail important letter. assigned the task with contexts:
!PO New York City
!PO Singapore, Downtown

So now if I am in NY or Singapore I will get a Location Notification.

My View "Errands" has the General Filter:
Contexts set to !PO All Post Offices
Group by Contexts

The "Errands" View shows the task "Mail important letter" in both NY and Singapore.
The Location Alert will fire when near either place.

Completing the task "Mail important letter" will complete for both locations - normal MLO function.

See attached pictures.

Does this work for you?

Al, thanks for posting this. I have one caution. Having created an "all post offices" context, a user might yhink thay s/he could create an "important letter" task with just that one context and receive a proximity alarm whrn approaching any of the post offices included in that context. That would not work,  as in your example,  you have to tag the task with the context for each specific post office. The reason for this is that inheritance is implemented for included contexts in views but not in proximity alarms.

Dwight, thanks for adding that clarification.

When making the task:
If one has a task that can be done in several locations be sure to add those locations to the task.

For the View:
One can simply use the aggregating task that includes the contexts from the task and group by Context. Presto you see all the locations where the task can be accomplished!

For Location:
Since the Task has several Contexts and each Context has it's Location set, the app will let you know when you are near one of those locations!

Thanks for asking the question as I am implementing this solution for my own use too!

Thanks Dwight for clarifying the steps!

There are so many ways to have MLO improve your day!
