I've been testing the new Advanced Backup feature, and so far I like it very much. A few comments:

1. A ml.bak file still gets created in my .ml file folder. I find this annoying, since I've specified a location for my backups.
2. If I set to backup the last <n> files to a folder, should this .bak in item 1 still be created (regardless of location)?
3. Why don't I have a checkbox to disable the last <n> files backup, and still have the daily, weekly and montly (well, I guess I can set it to <0> files..., but anyway)
4. I use my .ml file in a pen drive, which means the drive letter keeps changing. Assigning relative paths would help saving the backup in the pen drive. Also, my computers have different folder structures, making it hard to hardcode a "c:\something" path. Maybe allowing environment variables here could help.
5. Saving all the backups make saving a whole lot slower. There could be a way to backup only on demand, and not on every save. Maybe a "Backup Now" item in the file menu.

The whole backup thing is not a big deal for me, but since the feature is there, I figured why not expose my suggestions to make it better...

Regards.

Thanks Luciano
1, 2 : yes you probably right
3. you can set it to "0" now to disable. I have documented this in
help.
4. You *can* use paths relative to mlo.exe. Examples:
".\Backup\" - will store backups in Backup subfolder relative to
mlo.exe
"\MLOBackups\" - will store backups in the root subfolder using
current drive where mlo.exe placed
Backup settings are stored in registry so they are related to the
current computer.
5. Will think it over.

I have to correct myself on 4. Actually the paths can be relative to
the current folder. By default Current folder it the same where mlo.exe
placed and it can be changed in windows shortcut property "Start in"

Cool, that's even better.
That way all I have to do is to configure the shortcut to MLO in each
computer differently.

Thanks Andrey.

When I attempt to substitute current path string with ".\files\Autoarchive\", I see a pop up indicating that I don't have the right rights to do that.

Thanks

Hi, Kitus. When you are creating a shortcut in Windows (or if you edit an existing shortcut by right-clicking the shortcut icon and select Properties) you will see a field called "start in". This controls the local directory for the process started by the shortcut. The local directory is used when the process tries to access a file by specifying only the filename "file.typ" without an absolute location in the directory tree "C:\users\Dwight\Documents\Test\file.typ"

If the StartIn field contains the address of a directory such as "C:\users\Dwight\Documents\Test" then Windows will look in the specified directory for files specified without a directory. Careful if there are any special characters, including blanks - if there are any be sure to enclose the whole thing in quotes.

Once you have specified the StartIn field, the started process can access subdirectories of the directory you specified ("/subdirectory/file.typ") or the parent ("../file.typ") grandparent (../../file.typ) sibling directory (../sibling/file.typ) and many others. If nothing is specified in StartIn, then the local directory is initially set to the directory where the target of the shortcut lives. This is typically the directory containing the program that the shortcut will start.

Thanks a lot for your clear explanation Dwight, I appreciate you took the time to answer me. Do you happen to have multiple computers with Dropbox? Do you syncronize your MLO folder using it?
