Thanks, that looks very useful!

I wanted to check with you for some advice: on my Samsung Galaxy Note 8, Google Assistant doesn't register MLO as an note taking app. Instead, if I say "Ok Google, take a note" it opens a proprietary note taking app and creates a note there. Any ideas how to change it?
All my searches find the old Google Assistant version, where it's possible to change the default app, after asking it to "take a note". Now it just asks "what is the note" and registers in its own app.
I understand that it's not directly related to MLO Android, but I can't use this voice functionality, which I find very useful!
Thank you.

Best regards,
Domas

Thanks for the reply Andrew,
however, after saying "take a note" I only see this screen (attached below) without a possibility to press on it and choose an app.

I understand this is not a MLO question, but just keep this in mind, as I suspect this might be due to a newer version of Google Assistant? So it might become relevant for more users. It's also annoying how Google (or Samsung) changed the software - now the notes functionality is absolutely useless.
In addition, of course, I would really like to use the new MLO functionality :)
Thanks!

hi

maybe this will help:
try to install another note taking app like google keep or evernote.

Then try again to add a note with Google Assistant.
I hope this time you'll be asked which app to use.
Choose MLO then delete the recently installed apps.

Thank you Andrei. Worked perfectly.

Unfortunately it didn't make any difference for me. I have now both Evernote and Google Keep, but the Google Assistant's reaction to "take a note" is the same.

David, which phone are you using?

Thanks.

Hi, it looks like you are saying "take a note" - instead please try "note to self"

If "note to self" is not accessing mlo3, try these instructions for changing the default note-to-self app

Hi Dwight,
thanks for you help, however "not to self" doesn't work either.
And the link how to change the default app was already posted above - unfortunately I get a different view of Google Assistant after calling it (presumably due to a different version), without any selection to change the app (I attach the screenshot below). I have the latest version of Google app in my Galaxy Note 8.
Thanks!

Hi
Very sad. Another workaround, try to disable the proprietary note taking application.
Maybe this time, the google assistant will ask which one to use
Good luck

Your screen shot looks the same as what I see.

I say "take a note"
Google asks "what's the note"
I say "take out the trash"
MLO opens with a task "take out the trash" with an accept option that is counting down.

Hi David,
thanks.
Ok, that might be promising :)
But how can you change the note taking app? In the link it says "press on that text "take a note", however it's inactive in my phone.

After I register any note, it saves it into its own note app (which is very rudimentary, you can read more about it here: https://9to5google.com/2018/10/23/google-assistant-lists-notes/).
There's no possibility to disable or delete this app, as far as I know, because it's a part of Google Assistant.
Thanks!

Hi please see the attached image.
After adding a note, do u see the small round button below the note text? On the attached image it has the mlo icon inside. In your case, the button can have a different image or can be blank. Please try to tap it if you can. Thank you.

Thanks.
Here's my process: I say "take a note", Google asks: "what's the note", I say something ("note is empty"), Google says "saving note".
Nowhere in the interface I can interact in any way - holding on elements doesn't help.
I attach my screenshot as well (below).
I think the answer might be in the Settings. I've read somewhere, when googling this problem, that there might be a setting of Google Assistant to change the apps, but it isn't present in my phone, for some reason. I attach the screenshot of settings as well ("Shopping list" opens this damn note app, and "Reminders" opens list of google reminders).
I'm grateful for your ideas!

Dear friend
I have reproduced on my xiaomi phone. Android 8.1.
What I did: nothing special. Just used Google Assistant.

Sometimes I see the same behavior as you (the note is saved to the proprietary app) and sometimes it is saving using mlo.

The video can be viewed here (sorry it has been recorded with no sound):
https://www.dropbox.com/s/5idfe2hss753ak5/bug%20report_03.mp4?dl=0

Observation:
I have a feeling that Android phones have 2 Google Assistant apps with 2 different voices and different functionality. The first Google Assistant can add notes only to the proprietary app while the second can add notes to different apps.
Their voices are really different.

Suggestion:
Please add the Google Assistant search bar to the home screen and manually trigger the Google Assistant by pressing the bar. Do not say ok Google, just tap the search bar.
I hope this time Google Assistant will offer you to choose mlo.

Best regards
Andrew

Yes, indeed, calling Google Assistant via widget solves this problem.
Thank you!

Let's see how Google will decide to proceed with Assistant's development in the future.
