Hi. I would agree with you that some more goal periods would be helpful, but I suspect that different people will want a lot of different specific targets. Here’s a way to manage your goals in the meanwhile: use flags. Open the tools>Manage flags popup to rename flage (give new names like “3 month goal” and to associate a better icon if you can find one. Then create custom views the show whatever you want about these goals: list all tasks marked as a 6 month goal, for example. Or show all tasks marked as a six month goal created more than six months ago and not yet complete. Or whatever else you can imagine.
