Journal defined: A personal record of occurrences, experiences, and reflections kept on a regular basis; a diary. Maybe you have seen Captain Kirk in StarTrek making entries into the "Captain's Log".
My entries are not necessarily tasks. I am using MLO to record something that I observe, or record what I am thinking. I need the exact date and time of the entry. There is no "threshold" for creating an entry. For example, it does not have to describe an action that is performed by someone.

Create a view that shows all tasks, group by Created Date, sort order descending. Group only by days is checked. Do not show hierarchy, show as a flat list.

That is the journal. Nothing else is required, although some of the entries may go on the have a due date assigned to them, contexts added, etc.

I noticed Captain Kirk always had to include the stardate, as if it didn't automatically stamp it. And he never said the time of day. "Supplemental" means include the entry on the same day.
So we're even better than the Captain's log

Situational Awareness Example;
You're having a business dinner with some clients. Client A shows up, and you make an entry "Client A arrived at the restaurant". 10 minutes later, the entry is  "Client B arrived at the restaurant".
This could be valuable for the next meeting because if Client A has the habit of showing up early, you can prepare to have some one on one time with Client A before the other guests arrive.

Also, some of the journal apps that I have used:
Day One
Chronicle
Momento
Stream Journal
Task Log

I would rather use MLO.

Comments along Todoists lines maybe?

For my journal view, I group and sort by modified date, so that I can see where I've edited an item's notes recently.  My journal entries are often a date-stamped comment in the note against a particular task or project, to track progress on that task.

MLO Windows has good shortcut keys for time and date stamping comments in my text. It would be great if there was an "insert date" button or shortcut in the note editor for the iOS (and Android) versions, too.

Good ideas. I created a view that groups and sorts by modified date. Useful, as you say, to become aware of items that I have been working on recently.

I also noticed the lack of a date/time stamp when editing an item's notes in the IOS app. I am often using the Iphone's voice recognition to edit a note, so I might just say the date and time out loud. I wonder if IOS apps can have a "thumb press" that would bring up a menu that includes insert time and date?

Yes it is a good idea to look at apps like Todoist. Instead of running other apps, however, I would like to mimic their functionality using the features built into MLO.

I use the notes field to document progress, phone calls, etc. for my tasks, as well as for information/notes pertaining to projects. Since I use the iOS apps at least 90% of the time, it would be incredibly useful to have TextExpander support. A number of other apps I use have this, and it’s incredibly useful to have ‘TS’ automatically expand to 2019-02-13 14:44 - ‘, for example. I do this with iVim and a few other apps already, but it’s a real nuisance to have to type my notes in another app, then copy and paste them into the MLO notes. It sounds like a trivial thing, but it’s unbelievable how much time can be saved over the course of a day with half a dozen TextExpander snippets...
