Hi,
I wanted to accomplish a simple thing (at least I thought it would be simple):
Show a to-do list, with the active tasks only from a specific folder.

A couple of conditions:
  • It shouldn't be a root folder (I want to have some flexibility, where to put it)
  • It should be able to have a hierarchy inside it (Obviously. That's the point of it - if I would want just to have a simple list, I don't need a to-do list). My to-do list should pick out the active tasks from the subfolders.
That's it. It looked simple, but I couldn't manage to do it.
If I specify "ParentName" in the condition - the rule doesn't return tasks from subfolders.
If I specify "TopLevelParentName" - I cannot move this folder anywhere else outside the top level.
I managed to do it showing hierarchy, but I just want a simple list with only active tasks.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Regards,
Domas

hi
Could you please show what you want to achieve with an example?

Here's an example of tree.
How would you like to filter it?
All tasks view:
Parent folder
-child1 folder
--child3 folder
---active task
---hidden task
---task with start date in the future
--child4 folder
---active task
-child2 folder
Etc

Thank you

Hi,
thanks for the reply.
I have built a simple example tree (below).

I want to select Folder 2 as my source folder and see all "Active Task - want to see" tasks in the to-do list.
But I don't want to see "Active task - don't want to see" task, because it's in the different folder.
I hope that's clearer now.

Thanks!

Hi
See attached files please.

There you can find an example of hierarchy, and example of filtered view according to your requirements, and the view settings.

The filtered view is displaying the CHILD2 folder and the following conditions are met:
1) child 2 is not a root folder
2) child 2 folder has a hierarchy inside
3) the view is showing active tasks only from the Child 2 folder.

Is that what you need to achieve?

Best regards
Andrew

Hi,
thank you for your help.
There is one issue with this solution - as I've written in my initial post "I managed to do it showing hierarchy, but I just want a simple list with only active tasks."
I prefer to have just a list of tasks when looking at to-do list, as the hierarchy makes the view much more cluttered and usually I know already which project/folder the task is coming from.
That's why I wanted to achieve this with Advanced filtering, but couldn't manage to do.

Best regards,
Domas

I built a workspace for this function, it is zoomed into the folder I want to see (in this case Folder 2), no special filter required. I think I have three or four of these for different folders.

 Hope that's helpful,
 - Trevor.

Hi
An workaround is to use contexts.
Add it to the folder. Then when you add a subtask it will inherit the context.
Then create a cute without hierarchy, filtered by context and active action.
Hope that helps

Hi,
But can you see the tasks without hierarchy, just a simple list?

Ok, thank you.
I'm using grouping by context in the views, so that might mess up this. But that's an option.

I was expecting something in the Advanced filtering setup like "Parent(Parent())" or "IsBelowFolder".
Other easy option would be just to drag out my Folder 2 to root hierarchy and then use "TopLevelFolderName".

Thanks for the help.

Hi
If you don't want to use contexts for this purpose, you can use Goal setting.
It's even simplier because you can change the folder name, move the folder to any place and you won't need to adjust the Todo view, it will always work.

Steps:
Set the Goal=weekly to the folder.
Settings for Todo view:
Action filter = active
Advanced filter: goal=weekly

The workaround works well if you don't use the goal=weekly elsewhere. Otherwise the Todo view will contain tasks from other folders too.

Thank you!
That's a really nice option.
