3 dots after submitting (small) query/entry in Mongo shell?

Hi,

I'm at the very beginning of using MongoDB.

I've run the following command just to get up and running and populate a db with something (I later hope to be able to read in such data in Jaspersoft iReport)

db.towns.insert({ (to create a new collection)

name: "new york", population: 222000000)

etc

famous_for: ["food", "central park"],

mayor: {name: "MB", Party: "I"} })

The syntax is all fine, but when I hit return I get 3 dots ...and it seems to hang - i cannot enter any more commands

I running  the mongo shell in  win7.

Any ideas?

Three '.'s means your statement isn't complete...  Most likely, you've missed a closing curly brace.  Check your syntax and, if you still can't find it, post the full thing here and we'll help...

hey even i seem to be getting the same problem.. if i close the current shell and type the same querry in new shell then  it works fine ..why does this happen ??

It's waiting for more input.

Either your parents are not balanced, or your quotes are not balanced
or you simply haven't given enough input for it to do anything.

If you provide the actual text you have typed, we can probably point
out why it's not complete.
