Hi everyone,

The next meeting is 4 weeks from yesterday. I have reset the attendance
list and aim to update https://mlug-au.org when it again becomes
available.

No talks are scheduled yet. Please email the list if you would like to
give one.

Do put your name on the attendance list if you're planning to come.
Pending the return of the website you can access the list at
http://visualsynth.com/mlug/. I book the venue once there are 4 names on
the list: if people could register earlier then we might get back in the
dining room this month.

Cheers ... Duncan.

I put you on the list. Yours was the 4th name so I rang the GNH to book ... and
we have the dining room! Yay!

Cheers ... Duncan.

Hi everyone,

It is under a week until this month's meeting and I still haven't had
any offers of talks.

Last month I thought I heard one or two attendees mention they might
like to give one. Does that kindle any memories?

Cheers .. Duncan.

Duncan, does anyone (not for work but during recreational use or at home) use any modern apps other than using terminal to write code? Code that runs specifically on Linux O/S? Cant be a cross-platform Windows/Mac based app, must be a pure Linux app.
Not those mobile IDEs (Integrated Development Environments) apps that support multiple O/S types but specifically a program for Linux desktop only.
Which ones do they highly recommend installing?

Hi Duncan,

We've got a new member joining us this Friday, Jerrome. He'll be giving a presentation on Amazon Linux on AWS.

The next MLUG meeting is this coming MONDAY, not Friday. Please make sure
Jerrome is aware of that.

Also could you ask him to join the mailing list? (link on website)

Cheers ... Duncan.

Yep. I realised it was Monday after I sent the email.

I think he has joined the mailing list. But he's been out sick the last couple of days, so now it's a little unclear whether he'll make it on Monday.

Hi everyone,

We now have 2 talks. Danny Robson will be telling us automating his
(gourmet) mushroom grow tent humidifier with HomeAssistant and
`mosquitto` and Tasmota (all open-source).

Jerrome will be giving a presentation on Amazon Linux on AWS.

Cheers ... Duncan.

Hi everyone,

Next meeting is tomorrow. We have 2 talks:
1. Danny Robson: Using HomeAssistant, mosquitto & Tasmota
to automate mushroom growing
2. Jerrome: Amazon Linux on AWS

If time, we'll have a "Cool Things / MLUG improvements / Too Hard
Basket" session.

Cheers ... Duncan.

Hi Danny,

Your talk looks very interesting, I won't be able to make it though as I
have children's swimming on Monday's but if you do have any slides I
would love to have a look, cheers. Hope you're all well.

from,
Michael

Jerrome isn't going to be able to make it since he's sick. So it's just the one talk tonight. Look forward to seeing everyone tonight though!

Hi all,

Can we get a show of hands about who might be interested in helping us setup a Matrix server for the group?

So far we have Danny, Alex, and me.

Alex, I can't seem to find your email in the mailing list, could you send me a message when you get a chance?

I think the only reasonable way to get people to use it consistently will be to mirror a chat channel in matrix to the mailing list. I think there will be enough stuff to do to fill out at least two talks.

I'll loop in everyone who volunteers on a separate email thread so we don't pollute the mailing list with too much chatter.

HI all,

I had a chat with Kevin and I think this is a great opportunity for someone getting started with Linux system administration to get some experience dealing with publicly hosted services.

I have volunteered to mentor and help with troubleshooting, so if you are curious about self-hosting, IaC, automation, or Linux sysadmin in general, don't be shy and please reach out! :)

Cheers,
Andre
