I am using MIT App Inventor Classic and MIT App Inventor 2, on Windows 8.1, in Chrome 31.0.1650.63 m
I have the same application made in both AppInv1 and AppInv2 that plays an audio stream from a website. The problem is that in AppInventor 2, the player stops playing in backgroud (when i press home and use the phone or when the phone screen turns of, etc), unlike the player from AppInventor classic that works perfect in background, no matter what i do with the phone. Is this an issue that can be fixed or i can say goodbye to my application in AppInventor 2 (or after the classic version of AppInventor will disapear)?
Thank you for your answers,
Cosmin

As already mentioned, this is not currently possible in AI2. There are many improvements that can be done to the player, but they are not trivial.
Anyone out there with Android experience that want to help us out with this, please do get in touch.
Cheers,
José

I would also like to find out how to keep a player playing on phone screen turn off, or if the user goes back to Home, to do other things while the player is still running..--
I know its possible to do this, as another app I have installed on my phone (Police scanner) will stay running during the phone screen turning off, or if you press home button, the icon will show at the top. How is this possible to setup on App Inventor 2?
