I am having a problem with speech to text in a very simple app. The app works fine in an old Droid phone but returns the following error message in a Galaxy S2:

Runtime Error - No Activity found to handle Intent { act=android.speech.action.RECOGNIZE_SPEECH (has extras) }

Speech to text works fine in everyday use on the Galaxy, just not in the app. (TTS works fine as well) What am I missing?

- MIT App Inventor 2
- Windows 7 professional
- Firefox 26.0

What version of the operating system is running on your phone? (look in setttings -> about phone).   I haven't specifically tested a galaxy s2, but this ought work.

The Galaxy is running 4.1.2, I think that is Jelly Bean.

In order for this component to work, the device must have the TTS Extended Service app by Eyes-Free Project installed. You can download this from http://code.google.com/p/eyes-free/downloads/list

I came across that page when the problem surfaced and didn't try it because the app worked on the older phone without the "TTS Extended Service app by Eyes-Free Project" installed.

So, reluctantly I just installed the app on the Galaxy with no change in outcome, speech to text still returns the same error message.

Could you verify what venison of the Android OS you are using?  Is it in fact 4.1.2?

I guess it's conceivable that the Galaxy does something special with speech recognition, but it seems unlikely,
Recognition works fine on other phones with the standard Android intent that the error message says does not work on
your phone.   Maybe you can have an opportunity to try this on a different phone to see if the error occurs there as well.

Just to be sure, can you send the aia file and we can try it here?  (We don't have a galaxy).

The Galaxy 2 OS is 4.1.2. The app worked fine on an old Droid...I am beginning to suspect that Samsung has their own STT engine, I see something about "voice command by Vlingo"in language and input> speech, voice search> general> about. Having trouble downloading & attaching the project, I am on the Galaxy right now, but the app works on the Droid so I know that isn't the problem.

That could be true.
Just like kindle where they have their own tats engine and stuff like rate and pitch does not work.
