Dear Experts,

I would like to ask you the choice of the welding consumable for
- Joint on Saddle to Reinforced pad
- Material :
1. Saddle - CS(SA283-C) : P-1
2. Reinforced pad - Low alloy(SA387-5) : P-5B

In that case, which P No welding consumable is applied for that joint.
P-5B or P-1.
If there are any requirement for this issue in the ASME code, please advise me.

Best regards,

Kim, Junghwan as Project Manager in DKME

Dear air,

As per code, in case of welding of dissimilar material, consumable of lower grade material can be used to weld it.

So, in your case, consumable of P1 material can be used.

Prasad

Dear Mr. Prasad,

Thanks for your advice.
Could you please let me know which paragraph can I refer to welding of dissimilar material in ASME Code?
It would be highly appreciated to me.

Best regards,

u can use either welding consumable and should exceed the nominal tensile strength of weaker one. Ref ASME B 31.1, 127.2.1,(B)
