Your Analysis is correct but let me ask you a question?ASME IX QW 211, states that's "Base metal may consist of either PLATS, PIPES or other product forms. Qualification in plate also qualifies for pipe welding and vice versa" Now plate and pipes are different positions and material therefore using pipe to qualify plates and plates to qualify for pipes ordinarily means that at the point of qualification the position is not an essential variable.. if it does why did the ASME say so on qualification test coupon. I know that position is an essential variable when it is for production weld.Please clarify more on this also. Thanks for your support
