Dear Experts,

Hope everyone is doing great.

In a cross country gas pipeline project over a bridge deck we have almost completed ou welding activities and right now we are facing problem in selection of Pigs for that pipeline. For your information, the pipeline is about approximately 6 Km in length consisting of  14 nos U-loop and 06 Nos W-loop and 01 nos inlet and 01 nos outlet loops. Outer Dia of Pipeline is about 762 mm with a wall thickness of 25.4 mm.

The elbows in the loops are 1.5D 90 Degree LR BW elbows.

The entire pipeline has some pipe miter joints included but the angle of miter falls between the range of 2.5 Degree to  5 Degree.

The normal pigs we use for our cross country pipeline having 3D & 5D Bends are not suitable here.

As I have limited knowledge on pigging, hope some expert comment can help me to select the appropriate pig and finalize procurement for my project in Bangladesh.

With best regards,
Asif

Pigging is a very special process. You need to talk to the companies specialized in this discipline. TDW specializes in this area. You may contact them, for specific services in Bangladesh, if they provide so. I know they’ve a big presence in India. This presentation discusses with some interesting issues, related to pigging .

Hope it will help you.

Thanks.

For pigging you need min 5 D bends mostly in pipelines which require pigging 40 D bends are used in cross country pipe lines.

dear,
refer attached PDF,

I studied, your pdf loops, I think this is code boundary B31.3 for the above ground and valve section area, pigging is done for UG Pipeline. check if any code boundary piping.,

i prefer to divide your section into subsections and prefabricated Pig-launcher and Pig receiver.

you need to divide it into subsections and add golden joint (100% Rt/+100% Ut) after the hydro test. since pigging require or use during hydro testing.

as per the below mail reply from Mr. Goswami, you need professional support from the company or else if u have a competent team to do, u can do so.

for pigging selection.
1. form pig'
2. clean pig ( with the brush)
3. hydro test pigging (double side)
4. caliper pigging
5. gouging pigging.

Dear ASIF

It can be done by special pigging method.
The pig will move with crawler.
We have done for 20 km.
Just float the enquiry and pigging companies will quote you

Dear Sir,

Thanks for your reply.

If possible then would you please give me any contact info or company name or address of the pig manufacturers/suppliers with support services from which you have taken services as you mentioned for your 20 km pipeline.

Waiting for your precious reply.

With Regards,
Asif
