Many thanks to all those who found and shared information about the Redwing at Capissic Pond. I am curious if anyone has determined whether the bird at Capissic belongs to the nominate subspecies Turdus iliacus iliacus, which breeds and winters in Europe, or whether it belongs to the subspecies Turdus iliacus colburni, which breeds in Iceland and winters in Europe, and which is browner above and more darkly spotted below. From my examination of photos that have been posted, I would lean toward the Capissic bird belonging to the nominate subspecies, but I would welcome other people’s opinions. Thanks again, Danny Danforth
