Does anyone have tips on the to preserve syrup?
I mixed up 20 gallons of syrup for my hives because last week they looked like the were literally staving. Not a frame of honey in the hive. When I went to put it on now, not only is there a flow, but it’s very intense! The hives are so plugged with nectar it’s concerning that the queen is going to run out of space to lay. Or with this heat swarming could even be a concern.
I really don’t want all sugar to spoil and go to waste. It’s mixed at about 1.5:1 so I don’t think it will last until this flow has passed.

Add 1 tsp bleach per gallon to the syrup to prevent it from spoiling.

I use essential oils such as thyme and tea tree. Works for me.

I use 16 oz warm water to dissolve 1/8 t lesethin to aid in emulsification. I add 10-15 drops of organic spearmint oil, same amount of white thyme oil, and tea tree oil. A few drops of lemongrass oil. Make sure you're NOT using aromatherapy oils! They should be pure food- grade oils. After this is all mixed up, I add 2 T. To each gallon of sugar syrup.
There are tons of variations to this recipe!! Google to find what you like or have on hand. If you don't have lesethin, I think you can blend for 5 minutes to cause it to emulsify. It smells soooo good too!! Better than bleach. Lol

I usually use Honey B Healthy which I believe is mint and lemon(grass?) oil. I think it also helps preserve but was out of that this time I was mixing.
