Hello people

Finally it happened. I’m glad to say that accessible version of amp hub, guitar suite plug-in is out. Accessibility is officially mentioned in release notes so you can fully use the plug-in with no issues what so ever.
Using the plug-in is extremely easy, but if you need any help with plug-in feel free to write and ask, I’ll certainly help with everything.
Both plug-in and standalone version are accessible, although they have a different UI from voiceover perspective, but that won’t make you any issues.

Let’s rock that guitar.

Cheers

Hi. You did not post a link, so for those of us who have never heard of it,
or might want to pass it along to others, there's no point of reference.
If possible, please post an actual link to the website or page where one can
purchase/download the plugin.

A yes, sorry for not sending the link. I copied it but then forgot to paste the link.

It’s subscription based, although you can buy only those amp or pedal models you want if you desire so.
$10 monthly is almost nothing, but of course do whatever you desire.

That sounds awesome. Can you elaborate a bit on what is accessible and what you can do with the plug-in?

I might purchase/subscribe to this but it would be good to get an idea of what I should expect. My idea of accessibility may be different than yours as accessibility means completely different things to different people.

A walk through of how you go about getting an amp/cabinet, dialing things in to taste, accessing parameters accessing presets etc.

Thank you

Hey Herman

Sure no problem.
When I was working on this with stl tones developer I tried to think of everybody. I didn’t have full freedom, the UI of the plug-in couldn’t be changed, so I did my best.
You have a trial version of fully functional plug-in, it’s 10 days I think and then you get subscribed automaticaly or you cancel it. Enough time to test the plug-in out anyway.
But here’s general overview and how things work in this plug-in.

The plug-in UI has sort of two section, the main section with presets and main controls which always stays the same, and another section which changes depending on what you’re working with: amps, pedals, cabinets etc.
Lets say these are left and right sections. Keep this analogy in mind, will be useful later.

Obviously, VO keys + arrow keys is used to mvoe in the plug-in UI, VO+Space to activate or open certain things. When there’s difference I’ll mention it.

Main section contains following things:
-input level listener, the feature which allows you to choose best input level. Simply open it, from the menu choose what general level you want, low, medium or high, and play guitar for few seconds. It will be adjusted automaticly, and you can read the volume it adjusted to.
-input level, output level and gate controls: simply interact with these and use VO arrow keys to change the value. Each knob or slider work the same.
-presets section, you have next and previous preset buttons, preset selection menu which contains banks with different presets as well as load and save options. You shouldn’t use next and previous preset if you don’t want to. Up and down arrow keys will work either.
-routing menu, here you can choose the routing for the plug-in: mono, mono to stereo and stereo are available.
-routing lock, if you want to change presets but keep your desired routing settings, simply lock routing here.
- user manual, this is obvious.
-tuner - opens in a new window. Accessible but from some reason voiceover reads wrong tones. Instead of High E voiceover says F etc. This should be addressed in some of the future updates.
-midi assignment - Not lots of effort has been put to this section. It’s kind of accessible, but this will also be addressed in future updates.
-buttons for amplifier, stompbox, cabinets, and effects sections. Amplifier is selected by default. When you activate different one, effects for instance, amp section will disappear and effects section will appear.

Now remember the analogy from above? So, when amplifier and cabinet sections are active, they are on the left, and the main section is on right side.
For stompbox and effects sections, which look identical, it’s just oposite, so main is on the left, stompbox or effect section is on the right.

Amplifier section
Starting from top or far left, you’ll have all amp controls, buttons, toggles, knobs and sliders. Use VO space on buttons or toles to activate them, but in order to use knobs or sliders you need to interact with them and then use VO arrow keys to change the value.
After you pass all amp controls, you’ll come to the amp selection menu, where the name of currently selected amp model is always displayed, ignite amps emissary by default.
Open the menu and you’ll get separate window with one edit field, where voiceover is focused by default,  and the table.
Ignore the table. As you’re on edit field, simply hit down arrow and menu will pop up with all amp models. Select desired one with arrow keys and hit enter. Stompbox and effects selection menu look and work identical to amp selection menu.

Cabinets
You can select two cabinets at the same time in this plug-in. For each of them you have on/off button, next and previous mic, volume, mic distance and mic angle controls.
You also have cabinet selection menu which looks identical to presets menu, where preset banks are cabinet models here, and presets are different microphones here. Cabinet and mic names are displayed here of course.
There’s also a mix  slider which allows you to  hear different percentages of these two cabinets.

After this part, you have identical menus and buttons but for external impulse responces. However, there are no mic distance and angle controls for impulses, which is kind of obvious but worth mentioning.
At the end of section, you have high-pass and low-pass filters, and resonance controls for both cabinets.
You can combine internal and external cabinet impulses, that’s why you have on/off button for each of these.
'
Stompbox and effects section
When you activate switches for this, using analogy from above, they are gonna be displayed to the right.
Both of these looks identical, you have 4 slots, remove and swop for each one. Hit VO Space on desired slot, slot 1 for example. The selection menu opens, identical to amp selection menu, so be sure you’re at edit field and hit down arrow to open the menu of all devices, stompbox or effects models.
Once you select desired pedal, the controls for that pedal will appear right from the slots.
They are properly labelled, used in same way as other control I already mentioned.

More the less that’s it. Sorry if my explaination is somewhat up side down, I’m pretty sleepy at the moment hehe.

The UI of this plug-in is really easy to use. I personally use item chooser a lot, simply type in the name of control or whatever I want to access and works 100%, much quicker then using VO arrow keys, although that way of navigation is not that bad here, as there are no too many controls displayed at any time.

Soundwise, hmm, incredible really, although it’s matter of taste.
Personally, til now I heard 4-5 plug-ins which really sound and feel incredible, and 3 of these are stl tones plug-ins, they really know what they are doing.
Go and listen to demos of it, and download the trial and see it yourself, that’s always best.

Anyway, enough from me now.
If you or someone else need any help with the plug-in feel free to ask.

Cheers

Lucky, thank you so much for this. I'm currently in Windows so a few things are a bit different but super accurate and super helpful. I may actually subscribe.

I'd like to repost this on the Reaper list as I think others may be interested in an accessible guitar sim.

Feel free to forward it. I’m not on reaper mailing list any more, otherwise I would do it.
Actually, the tonehub, plug-in from stl tones as well will be also made accessible in some near future so there’s gonna be more choice for us.

Anyone else have quick notes popping up every time they navigate to a particular control in the plug in window? Not just seeing this with Amp Hub but a couple of other plug ins that are now accessible in a similar manner.

Aiden,

Wasn’t familiar with “AmpleSound.”  So, I went out & checked it out.  Can’t speak to it’s Accessability, but—speaking as a guitarist—it seemed pretty robotic to me.  That being said, maybe there’s a trial download you could give a whirl?

Best of luck,

CJ

They do have demos of one of the bass and guitar library last I looked. Some stuff does show up in controls view, but will it be enough to have get the instrument to do what you want, one will probably have to try it to find out.
And yes, as a guitar player most any guitar soft synth won’t past the test on their own but you can get away with them in a mix, especially if  it’s already something electronic based and locked tightly to a grid.

Well, I enjoy their 12 string version quite ok for what I want to do.
But for the rest I will leave it up to better guitar players to judge.

Well,

Don’t know about better.  But, I’m 58 & have been playing since I was 16…you do the math.  I don’t want to face those numbers head-on.  *smile*. I’d tend to agree with Steve that they’d be okay in a mix.  I can just hear the fact that they’re produced by a keyboard.  Only guitar sounds that I’ve heard that would fool me were the classical & steel string patches on the Yamaha Motif series of keyboards.  As I recall, they start @ the nearly $2K level & go up from there.

Anyway, best of luck,

CJ

I would imagine it is very similar on Mac as I am using it in Windows currently. But once you go into the preset list for the plug-in itself and arrow through the different categories/presets, one of them will be "new bank" You should be asked to name the bank and then you will have the option to make new presets.

Yes, thanks a lot!
It works. There are on mac some difficulties. The preset list isn't always read correctly. I hope that in the future it will be more available.
I also try as it works on windows PC.

Hey Benjamin

There’s a small bug in mac version regarding preset list. When you open the preset selection menu, you can use up and down arrows to move from bank to bank, but as soon as one bank is selected, voiceover immediately focus in the first preset from that bank. That’s fine but, if you don’t need that bank then it becomes a bit annoying, you have to hit left arrow key to go back to the list of preset banks, and go on.
Same happens with cabinets selection menu. Obviously I reported this to the developer, but he couldn’t find out what was wrong with it, so it may be simply a bug from the juce framework don’t know.
On windows it works perfectly, so it’s buggy only on mac.
Anyway, the developer is aware of this and he said to check it out further to see is there anything he could do.

Cheers

I noticed this with VoiceOver when going through cabinets and its damn near making using the plug in unusable if I can’t go through the cab selections while dialing in a tone. And of course using presets gives the same issue. Hopefully they can track down what’s the issue is and find a resolution.

Hey man

I’m not sure I understood you.
Is cabinet selection not working at all or what? Please give me just few more details. I’m gonna send new report to stl tones guys in a few days so please explain what’s problem exactly so I can report it as well.
Usually, when you open the cabinet selection menu, it’s structured as same as the presets selection menu. Instead of preset banks you have cabinet models, and instead of presets, you have microphone models.
Mic models can be changed with down and up arrow keys, if you are positioned on the selection menu itself, or with next and previous buttons.

The issue is exactly what you described in your previous email, and as a result its difficult to reliably select a cab reliably. Especially if you are trying to do it while playing back the project so you can hear the changes immediately.
I wonder if there is a VO setting or two I can change to make it behave more reliably. I’ll test a few things and report back

Yeah, that’s really something that drives me crazy as well.
I already tried few different things but couldn’t make it working differently, you’ll maybe have more luck as you’re more expirienced mac user.
In any case, report back anything you find out.
I won’t send the report to stl tones til the beginning of april, as I’m currently testing the tone hub as well, but anything you or someone else find out which I maybe missed or simply didn’t find out, please share it here, I’ll take everything and write down in report which I’ll send to them.

Out of curiosity, are you using VO navigation or just normal keyboard navigation? If I understand the framework correctly, you should be using mostly just your keyboard to navigate through these menus as VoiceOver will give you unreliable results in certain places.

Just a thought anyway because I've seen this kind of behavior in other applications. For me it has been mostly because I am navigating with VoiceOver and not the keyboard.

Looks like turning cursor tracking off with VO Shift F3 makes it so you can navigate the list of cabs, however selecting them becomes an issue. Only had a quick play with it though. Let me know if you find anything else out.

Hello!
I was really not success to create and edit own пресет. On mac I created new bank. Then I created new пресет. I adjusted him. Then I have come into the preset’s menu . When I went to the button to save my пресет, this preset have changed on other of the list.
I also checked preset’s menu on Windows. It works better. But also I got the same result.
Probably I incorrectly do something. If there is a more simple way to reach the Save button?
Thanks!

Hello!
Today I tried to play with STL. I want to share my notes.
1; Presets menu seemed to me not really available. I tried on Mac and Windows. On Windows navigation according to the menu is slightly simpler. This bug has been already described by many. But there is a common problem: it is difficult to create and save preset because it is necessary to go through all preset’s menu. Thus mine пресет are replaced with others through which I go.
2. Midi settings isn't accessability. I tried on Mac and on Windows.
3. I have noticed that on Mac in the section of the amplifier aren't so convenient as on Windows. For example I will talk about amp Eddy 5153 White. It has Green, Blue an Red channels. Depending on the chosen channel, the order of buttons changes. For example there can be Green the channel, then Red and Blue. And sometimes Green channel, then Blue and Red. And nops sometimes place before of the button of the channel, and sometimes after.

It seems on Windows to such probla isn't present.
I will be very glad if these notes go to STL. I very much like this plug-in on a sound. Also he seems very much accessability in comparison with others. I saw more accessability only AmpKit for Mac. But it is very old plug-in and now this project it is closed. Though I have not such wide experience of work with different plug-ins.
Thanks
!
