Hi,
It's been over a year since recording in logic pro x and obviously
logic has had updates. I'm using 10.77 or whatever it is.
It'ss simple, my problem but not simple enough for me to fix the issue.
I made a beat, I created an audio track in the project, I made sure
the box was checked for input monitoring.
I did a test record, I can hear myself talking into the mic, but after
doing a test recording, I play it back, nothing was recorded.
I made sure recording was armed, if that's the correct term, I don't
know what the problem is?
If it helps any, I'm using a second gen focus right.
Thanks to anyone who can assist.

After setting your gain, and right before you record, uncheck input monitoring and do not have the record button checked unless you will be recording on more than one track at the same time. Be sure the track you want to record on is selected when you are about to record. After recording, if you still don't hear anything, check your output level.j If you still don't hear anything, see if you can play back something else you previously recorded. If you don't hear anything, you might have an issue with your sound card.

Good luck!

Is punch in turned on ?

oops. I thought input monitoring had to be checked. I'll revisit it
later today, as I'm at work ATM. Thank you!

Hi,
A related question. How do I record myself singing and hear myself playing? At this point, I'm unsure if I want to record on both tracks at once.

Thanks.

Jim

Sometimes when punch in is on the locators are not aligned with the cycle region or the region you are recording. When punch in is on you can only record within those locators, at least this has been my experience, and so I get no recording outside the punch in locators.

Input monitoring is useful for setting gain and adjusting headphone volume.  Afterwards, I uncheck input monitoring and begin recording.

In answer to hearing yourself sing and play keyboard at the same time, wear headphones and adjust outputs before recording.  Then, smiling, have at it!

Hi,
The most elementary  things trip me up sometimes. If I am singing, do I need to put VoiceOver on my keyboard track? I thought that I would not be able to hear myself play if I was pointing to my vocal track and that I would not be able to hear myself sing if I was pointing to the keyboard track. In case it matters, I usually plug my headphones directly into my Mac.

Thanks.

Input monitoring lets you hear yourself when you aren’t recording. However when you press record it should input monitor you as well, so you don’t have to necessarily have input monitoring on.
A couple things to try. 1) ensure that you have the right input selected.
2) check that the track volume didn’t get turned down. Sometimes if you are recording vocals without headphones on and logic gets a hint that there maybe feedback it turns the track volume down to stop it from happening.
3) after recording press control home/end to see if you even have a region on the track. If there is a region there, try turning it up with region gain and see if you hear anything.

Let us know if any of these help.

If you want to record to multiple tracks at the same time you will need to record enable both tracks. If you want to monitor yourself while not recording, you will need to input monitor both tracks.

Onon the Youtube channel look for a tutorial called fixing input monitoring. It shows you how to turn that behavior off.
