Victor,

The design of your magazine would be first class if you were a paper magazine. On-screen it doesn't work.

Grey type on a grey background is illegible, and you taught me something interesting: in the context of your magazine's presentation, it can't be magnified.

The screen has a 4x5 or wider aspect ratio. *8.5 x 11 doesn't hack it, and 17x11, four columns wide, is even worse. You'd think that fifty years in somebody would have figgered out how to present readable type on a computer screen, wouldn't you?

Good try, but no cigar, I'm afraid.

Best wishes,
David A. Lloyd-Jones

The grey on black text is one article. The rest of the magazine is different colors. Also the display app does a have zoom function in the lower right of the app window.

Thanks,

Victor, concur with all that David advises except that this design won’t work in print either. Difficult readability is difficult no matter what platform on which it is presented.

Your pages are visually attractive, just very hard to read. Once the eye fatigues, the brain shuts down and comprehension stops.  Your pages are very trendy, and fun to design too, but very difficult to read. Wired, and a few other publications use this visual approach, but if you want greater readability, would avoid the reverse type and images behind the type. Not as pretty, but a lot easier to read.

But again, it’s your magazine, so as you see best. And good success as well. -- Paul
