You all thought Jangouts was dead, didn't you? ;-)

This week we released Jangouts 0.6.0, which is quite a disruptive version for several reasons. Find the release and its description at https://github.com/jangouts/jangouts/releases/tag/v0.6.0

I also updated the corresponding openSUSE packages at https://build.opensuse.org/package/show/network:jangouts/jangouts

In this new version everything was basically rewritten from scratch using React instead of Angular. That includes the user interface, which is now mobile-friendly and based on some mock-ups developed by Cynthia and others in the past.

Feature-wise this release brings nothing new, except the mentioned new UI. Quite the opposite, in the good old Plasma 5 spirit, version 0.6.0 contains less features than 0.5.0. We needed to finish the migration to React to then start thinking about bringing the features back one by one (and, in most cases, with a redesigned approach).

So I already have my very own personal plan about what I would like to see in the next version. See the "backlog" column at https://github.com/orgs/jangouts/projects/2/views/1

What I don't have is the time to start working on all that. So this is both an announcement and a call to action! It should be much easier to contribute to the new code-base, so don't hesitate to step in.

Enjoy the demo site at https://li2023-182.members.linode.com and report any bug.

We actually have the domain jangouts.org but I none of the core Jangouts developers have found time to move the demo there. If you have experience with SSL certificates, Apache setup and so on and want to help... you know where to find us. ;-)

Cheers.

Just for completeness. This is tracked at
https://github.com/jangouts/jangouts/issues/436

Let's keep the conversation there.

Cheers
