Head door hinges

Does anyone have a source for the head door hinges?

One of mine seized and then I managed to break it while trying to unseize it.

I have purchased from a couple of places.  First, an exact match, but very pricey, can be purchased from Waterline, but cost $85 pair.  The last place i purchased a couple from was FP Marine, www.fpmarine.com.

They are not an exact match but can be made to fit.  They are $10 a pair.

Yes! After numerous calls and emails and 6 weeks after they said. Seriously poor customer service with lame excuses but they were the only ones with the hinge.

Both heads on my boat require right-handed hinges. Waterline (and FPMarine) only sell left-handed hinges. The difference is that if an RH hinge is used on a LH door, the breakaway feature won't work: the door will fall off.

Were people able to make them work? If so, how?

They (waterline) used to sell both. I got a couple right-handed ones a few years ago, but I am also out of them now. We really need to find out their manufacturer.

Yes, what is breakaway. My hinges like yours have a permanent pin that stays with the door (until it breaks off). Maybe that’s what breakaway means. All the doors can be removed without removing a pin

That's how FPMarine describes the hinge. I asked about "breakaway hinges" with my local hardware store guy and he immediately knew what I was talking about. 

But, it does appear to be loaded with irony.

I can lift my door right off the pins without removing hinges. The halves separate and the piece with the pin remains on the frame. (Try this with a helper nearby... it’s a pain to line up with the pins to reinstall).

Unfortunately the hinges shown in the photo won’t work for our doors because the are surface closing. They don’t close against a jam with stops, accordingly the hinge has to have an offset. 

FYI original hinges can be repaired if only the brass pin has broken off. Drill out the old pin am fashion a new pin which can be glued in place. It helps to drill out the old pin with a drill press.

I don't care about the "breakaway" (or, if you prefer, "lift-off") feature. The problem is that these hinges have a combination of an overlap and an offset, which seems to be impossible to find. The hinge that Michael linked to seems to be a simple butt hinge, but it's hard to tell from the picture.

Waterline's are the only hinges I could find as well, but as noted above, they are left-hand hinges.

I did find these from Sea-Dog. They have only a single offset. They could be made to work, but the hinge would not be concealed and would be on the outside of the frame. They would also require a small mortise to be cut in the door to get it to sit flat. I'm not happy with that solution, but I haven't found anything better.

I just came across these "lift-off" hinges made in Germany that look
extremely similar to what we are all looking for:

They come in two sizes, Left/Right and two finish (ours is chromed
brass). I am not at the boat to take measurements (eg is the offset
7.5mm?) Anyone has one handy to check? Are they 40mm long? Just crossing
my fingers...

Shipping costs start at 55 euros for the US (but we don't have to pay
VAT, 19%). They give a ~15% discount starting at 5 pieces. We could do a
group order and then dispatch. I would be happy to become a "breakaway"
hinge dealer... :) But first we need to make sure these are the correct
ones.

Much closer. The door part of the hinge would have to be screwed into the end grain of the door, instead of the back. The frame part of the hinge would have to be screwed into the inside of the jamb, instead of the face. But, it could definitely be made to work.

For any j40 sailors, we are having a new carbon mainsail made (very exciting) and therefore we have our original double taffeta main as well. For those of you who are more offshore or long distance cruisers, we’d very happily part with the extra main for a few hundred bucks. It’s in fine condition, but it’s just a little heavy for us. Does anyone have need for an extra mainsail? It would be good for stormy weather. It has 2 reef points and is fully battened. Let me know if you’re interested! Will share pictures of our new sail once its finished.

I have a U.K. tape drive main. It’s old but doesn’t have rips or tears. It also needs sail slides. 5 batten, 2 battens are full length and the remaining 3 are shorter.
