Setting up Hugin on AWS/Cloud?

Hello everyone,

I am interested in setting up Hugin on a cloud infrastructure. Has anyone done this before on AWS or any other platform? Would it be viable technically? We are looking for a single body+lens+shooting pattern to begin with so that we can create standard templates to carry out the stitching.

Not sure if I am correct, but I think you will try to set a batch stitching environment, don't you?

If so, then you are going to use the tools hugin is based on, cause all of them are command line tools and this way can be used on scripts for batch stitching in or outside a cloud. You might also find other tools interesting, like panotools::script from Bruno Postle and maybe others you will be able to find at wiki.panotools.org.

Hello Cartola,

Thanks for your reply and pointers. Yes indeed I'm trying to setup a batch stitching environment. I will dig deeper into the resources pointed out by you.

Is there a basic thumb rule to choose the number of cores or ram for a cloud instance(minimum configuration)? Any guidance would be much appreciated.

Hi Raghav,

I don't really know how to answer your question, but don't think it is an easy answer and it probably depends on what your needs are and not of hugin. You need to search or test, maybe in a standalone environment, a working batch stitching process for your average stitching. Maybe you need to do a benchmark to test the limits needed for the amount of images you intent to use and their sizes. I guess no one will be able to tell you something without knowing your intentions. And it also depends on the speed you need, cause probably with a small environment it will still be possible, but will maybe be slower.

Surely to stitch one and maybe two or three panoramas at the same time the equivalent of one single machine may be enough. I guess my PC with 8GB RAM, core i7 can do that, but no more than that and I've never tested with more than one nor did batch stitching.
